Cliff,
Have a transport service bring it home. Use Andy Haaden, he is listed under
aircraft services on Barnstormers. It's cheaper and easier than a U-Haul
and he is a great guy.

Dear Friends!
Today I made the first small jumps with my recently aquired MKIII
It was a perfect day. Sunny, cold, and hardly any wind. Last week I
spoke my old UL flight instructor who suggested me some excercises, to
graduately get tho know the plane. He had two advises: Don't take off
before you know how it handles on the ground at speed, and once you
fly, don't panick.
The tower at the local airfield (Stadtlohn Germany) generously allowed
me to play at the grass sailplane strip besides the runway. So there I
was: just me in my new Kolb! (with an enormous heartbeat I must
admit...)
I started off with some roling exercises and gradually I drove it
faster. Each leg I added more power, keeping it in line. Then the jumps
were getting longer. Finall I was ready for it. Lined up, took a deep
breath, slowly added more gas, heard more rattling over the rough
surface and then suddenly the rumble stopped and there I was, flying
some feet above the grass! Hovering to the end of the runway (this is
an inverse touch and go) I quickly took back the throttle, pointed the
nose down and leveled some inches above the grass. Touchdown.... WOW!
Turned around, took a deep breath and reopened the throttle. Same
player shoots again. Turned around...
I spent nearly a full hour of fun: Flying landing flying landing...
Just to get the hang of it. And then suddenly I was exhausted.
So this was day ONE! Maybe it's to early to call it a first flight, but
those definately where the first hops...
And It Feels Great!
Holiday greetings from Holland!

It's worth the journey just to here him spin some of his "experiences".

Robert -
The nose cone of my Mark-IIIC was also hard to fit on the cage - I ended up
filing away fiberglas at a few key locations with a rat tail file. Got it
to finally fit perfectly, and it looks fine. File a little, check fit, file
a little more, etc. Chances are pretty good you can make yours fit with a
little "work" on the nosecone.

Hi all,
Building the Kolb.
I have had various posts off list about the differences in the way we operate in
the USA and the UK.
Just for interest I will post an occasional comment on what I am doing.
If no one is interested just tell me to shut up.
With my Xtra due in the Liverpool docks tomorrow 22nd I have taken the first legal
steps required.
I have applied to the Popular Flying Association for a `Build Book and Build Project
Number`
This will officially register the kit and it will be known by the project number
until the Aircraft Registration Number is allocated by the CAA.
The Build Book will set out all the legal requirements and details of the kit.
Type and number, engine, type and number and and a log will be maintained of the
building process and the Inspector will check the work and sign the book as
things move along.
I also have downloaded the form to apply to the CAA for a Registration Number.
I was going for G-LADD but this was issued to a helicopter company in Ireland
a few years ago so I have settled on G-WNDY which is the nearest I can get to
WENDY, my wifes name. Fingers crossed.
Thats as far as we go at the moment.
Cheers
A Happy Christmas to all.

Hi Robert,
The nose cone on the Xtra is a tight fit but they do fit when you have
figured out how to get it on, it will need no filing to get it on.
There is also no need to put rivets on the sides of it only on the top and
bottom.
You will find that at the sides there is a bit of a gap, this is a good
place to fit a flush mount static vent, (one on each side).

It sounds like you already mastered the hard part! Go for it!! It's a
piece of cake at 1000 ft. altitude. ~ Earl
