I agree. Credit should be given to Bryan Melborn for building and painting
the FireFly. It took Grand Champion that year at Sun n Fun.

Morning All:
Now that I have had time to think about it, the photo, above, was
probably taken S&F 2003. I don't think I flew for Kolb last year.
Memory sure goes fast when one hits what the Federal Government
recognizes as "officially elderly".
Clear and cold at hauck's holler, alabama. Was 21F last night and
presently 39 and climbing.

Morning boyd/All:
John Williamson pointed out to me the 2000 ft min was "requested" not
"mandatory". However, don't think we would be making many bownie
points with the Park Ser is we flew as we normally do.

Actually, it was a lot of fun to watch you buzz around in the little FlagFly.
Now that I have finally flown one I see how much fun you were having. By the
way, it is 78 degrees and sunny, had to run the a/c on the way to work this
morning :-)

Sounds like a fun time. I know I have pissed off more than one
"hundred dollar skyhawk" doing the five mile final into a flyin
breakfast. Then I would slow down in front of 'em and watch
the smoke come out the windows as they had to make a go-around.
Just thinking about moseyin' down short final at 45mph in my
Kolb has me smirking in anticipation.

(RD) That's good news. I really liked the Laser, and recall bugging Dennis
about it quite a bit when I was up at (the old) Kolb years ago. There was
one complete plane, and at least two fuselage cages hanging around the barn,
and I just couldn't quite get him to let me take one of the cages home.
Hey Travis, are you listening? Send one down :-)
Cheers,
Rusty (hope my wife doesn't read this)

Beauford,
I never did MIG on cromoly, but all that I ever use on gas welding
4130 is standard mild steel rod, as per kolb manual. Richard Swiderski

Rusty & All,
I heard all three were sold off to someone, & that the reason for
not going into production was the cost return ratio was too high.

ER80S-D2, ER70S-2 or ER80S-D2 will be the wires to use. Flux core?
Nope. Requires shielded welding (co2 or co2/argon). Might want to run a
search on MIG WELDING 4130...lots of articles online.
