just want to mention here that if anyone needs or has a use for a reverse
fan for the cuyunna engine, I have one. you can use the engine in a tractor
situation. make me a deal. I flew a Cobra with cuyunna engines for lots of
years with no problem. you are all right about having to watch and retorq
the heads and other bolts also. constant care on that engine but it would
serve you if you didnt bully it like we do our ratty-axe engines. think I
have a bunch of ole cuyunna stuff hanging around, pistons, carbs, mufflers,
stuff like that if anyone wants it. ted cowan.

I doubt that a stainless one would fail but then again for an 8 cent
part that holds your wing on why scrimp. Has anyone else seen this? Where

(RD) Hi Steve, I just got a pack of these from Spruce, and you're right,
they're stainless. If that bothers you (doesn't bother me), then do a
Google search for AN416-1 and you'll find a number of sources. Wicks was the
only place I saw that I recognized, but I'm sure most every aircraft parts
place carries these. It would be interesting to see if you get stainless
from other sources, or if that's just what Spruce has now.

I have replaced all my safety pins with ring type safeties. I used them with
for years with my Weed Hopper and found them to be more reliable and much
easer to use than the Cowling Safety Pin style. This type will not be pulled
out by tall grass like the safety pin type.You can get them at any of the
ultralight part places or catalogs.

Well... my 582 equipped MK3 (with a C-type gear box), has a 65''
Neuform 3-blade prop.
In rest, the gap is about 3" to the tail boom. So you might add another
1/2". But when it wiggles in flight, it DOES come close...

Pollus/All:
Running 72" Warp with 3/4" clearance between tailboom and prop tip.
Forget what Old Kolb called for prop clearance, 1 or 1.5". If Dennis
Souder is monitoring the List he will probably remember. I think he
is cause he just posted a comment to the Corvair engine that weighs 30
more than a 912.
I use the hardest available from Kolb supplied Lord Mounts and have no
problem with that 3/4" clearance. If I was flying any other engine, I
would also fly with the hardest Lord Mount available. Reason being,
keeps the engine from moving around so much during power changes.
Helps hold the engine in a position that is closer to what you see
when on the ground with engine off.
Recommend everyone rig their engines and props for the proper
clearance as indicated in their plans and instruction manuals from Old
and New Kolb Aircraft.

I mounted mine similar to the titan, the oil tank up front as the kolb, but the radiator in front of that with the oil cooler mounted behind the radiator, makes for shorter less complicated plumbing, less drag on the water going through the system. Wonder how much drag on the water you are saving with your system over my
system with radiator in rear under engine with oil cooler piggy backed on
it?
Bet that is why I can't keep up with John W and the 912ULS powered Kolbra.

Hi Kolb Builders and Flyers
I was wondering why I never see wicker seats in Ultralight Aircraft.
A few years ago when I was in Florida I took a hot air balloon ride. The pilot
told me the basket was made out of wicker because it had the best strength to
weight ratio and was very resilient. Also the wicker seat would be nice and cool
during the hot summer months.

Hi Gang,
I am still tweeking on my Mk3. She wanted to roll to the right and a trim-bungy
was required to keep her straight. After numerous measurements and some serious
analysis I lowered the trailing edge of the root of the left wing 5/16". To
test the change I took off carefully and made sure she was going to behave before
I committed to flight. My adjustment was the right thing to do. She now tracks
straight-on at all speeds and is a lot more fun to fly.
Gene Ledbetter (~250 Hrs on his FireFly) and I later flew the 45 miles South to
the gulf coast but when we got there the fog was just closing in. Gene landed
but visibility was zero about a half mile up-wind. We had no time to lose if
didn't want to get weathered in so I called him as I made a low pass over the
field. He back-taxied and took off again. I did one turn around the pattern waiting
for him to get some altitude and lost sight of him. He called to me a minute
later to tell me that he was in front of me... and there he was. My GPS
died and I had to change batteries as we flew. He did a great job of navigating
while I made sure the battery polarity was right and the little door went back
in place. It is great to fly with guys you trust. Back at home base I made
a fair landing in a moderate crosswind. My fuel consumption was 3.5 Gal per Hr.
