I shall be there on the 14th according to my current plans but shall leave
the UK on the 1st so I if things are firmed up by then it would be helpful.

For those that do not know, you can get weather radar and other graphics on
your cell phone through web sites like www.my-cast.com It's really helpful to
look at before you hop to your next destination.

Hi James,
you haven`t seen one now either.
The film clip was of a paraglider, not a hanglider. Thermals can do
strange things though. Apart from all that lovely lift in the middle there
is the area of `down` surrounding it. Thermals can change the local wind
direction by 180 degrees almost instantaneously. Usually just when you have
the landing set up. Sometimes they can change the wind direction when your
glider is hanging on the cable with its nose high halfway through a launch.
I understand too that a thermal can deflate a hot air balloon by sucking the
hot air out. Nasty thought.
Cheers

Interesting note I have been thrown into spins by thermals while flying
sail planes. The edges at the top can become quite turbulent and at low
airspeeds does not take much of a twist to send you over the top. I
believe that is why part of glider training is learning how to get out
of spins.

Hi All,
regarding the recent discussion about aircraft weights I thought you might
appreciate these flying probverbs.
The aircraft G-limits are only there in case there is another flight by that
particular airplane. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are
no G-limits.
.
. One of the beautiful things about a single piloted aircraft is the quality
of the social experience.
A pilot is the highest form of human life.

Thanks MIke, good information to know.
Just curious, did you witness the test? What components had permanent deformation,
if any? Anything actually break?

It's pretty expensive, but the Anywhere Map folks also offer Anywhere
Weather, delivered by satellite phone to the iPaq.
It will deliver doppler radar with higher quality & resolution than any
airborne radar in small planes.

------------
I tried the sat phone weather, and ended up with XM when they offered that
option. Having a <6 minute old radar map is way cool. Unfortunately, the
Ipaq is still not the greatest display for full sunlight, and pecking at the
small screen in turbulence is impossible. I eventually got so frustrated
with it that I mounted the Ipaq under the panel (in the shade so I could
read it), and mounted a Garmin 195 on the panel. The 195 is what I use for
navigation, and the Ipaq is purely a weather display.
