Hello Group !
Just wanted to give the address of a great new satellite maps tools
provided by Google.
http://maps.google.com/
Just go to this page and click on the Satelite link at the upper right
of the page.
The resolution vary but some cities have a very high resolution ...
I was even able to spot my Kolb Twinstar MkII on the field !!!
... Near Montreal, Canada.
Great tools for trip planing, to find safe flying terrain (farmands ...
etc) !
You can even create a link to a given map by using the
"Link to this page" link on the Google map page !

If you look in the center of the picture you should see 3 yellow planes ...
Mine is the one on the leftmost side ... !
The one beside is an original 1946 Piper Cub and the other one is a
Zenair CH-701
You can also see another white plane on the "runway" and another parked one.
I suspect this picture to have been taken last summer (or maybe the one
before)
It would be fun if all (who are interrested) would try to spot their
plane and post the www address as above.
Of course many planes are in hangards but ... it can still be
interresting to see the field area ...

System problems continue to plague the Matronics Email server.
Incoming List mail was being rejected from about 12am Monday morning
until about 10am PDT Monday 4/11. It is unclear at this time what is
causing the system problem, but I am feverishly working on the issue.
I had to restore a list subscriptions database from an April 6th backup
because all of the list files had been truncated. I then reran all of
the subscribe/unsubscribe requests since the 6th. You may have just
received a subscribe/unsubscribe request and the FAQ if you've
subscribed/unsubscribed since the 6th.
At this time new posts are being processed and operation should be
considered normal.
More as information developes...

Longer legs dont help any in the original version of the firestar the leg
sockets dont angle forward at all I am thinking I can move the top back easier
and with the longer gear legs I will have the problem solved

but I think I will make new gear leg sockets to accept the bigger gear legs
and move the top of the gear leg sockets back about two inches I think this
will be the best fix for me I really don't want to bend the gear legs to make
it work ok and look weird
Now I just gotta get a look at a newer model of the gear leg
sockets to see what angle there at

Dave, you took me wrong. My referring to myself as a "fair weather flyer"
was not meant to be an insult, but an acknowledgement of just how I see
myself. I have the greatest admiration for all the guys on the list -
especially the two Johns - who fly all over the country and in all kinds
of conditions that I am not willing to take a chance on - especially with a
582.
And by the way, "Hard Core" is a compliment. Our church congregation meets
in a building used during the week by a martial arts school, and one of
their mottos is that no body makes black belt unless they are hard core,
those who are not "hard core" drop out first. Consequently, I see our long
cross country Kolbers as "hard core."
Neither do I think that those going to Monument Valley are a clique. If
there is a clique, then it is probably comprised of everyone who owns a
Kolb, likes a Kolb, or wishes they had a Kolb. Neither am I the one who
started the recent term "click", the only thing I was interested in was if
anybody was going to the comparatively adjacent (only 4 hours away) fly in
at Lumberton SC, and was simply responding to a question about it. So don't
include me with those who might be troubling themselves about a "click", I
don't have a dog in that fight.
But if I had more time off, the financial resources, and confidence in the
weather to behave, (or a trailer for the MKIII) I would be at Monument
Valley instead of Lumberton, and I wish all who are going out west a great
flight and a great time. And if any of you "hard core" guys get anywhere
close to East Tennessee on your travels, I would be honored for you to stop
in at Indian Springs airport (3TN0), be glad to show you some Southern
Hospitality.

If you are concerned about the strength of the tank, you can cut the top out
of one, drill two 1/4" or so diameter holes in the bottom, heat it up 'till it
gets pliable [we used a "jet engine" type space heater], & slide it over
another tank [probably would be good to chill the inner tank w/ ice]. The tanks
are cheap enough to make two in to one.
