I hope you like your three blade prop on the 447. I flew for a while with a 60 inch three blade prop on my FireFly and I took it off to save weight and because I like the sound of the two blade over the three. I am getting ready to ferry the FireFly to Indiana, and two days ago, I removed the three blade prop from the Victor 1+ and mounted a 64 inch two blade IVO. The three blade was quieter, but I did not like the white noise sound that it made. I like the lower frequency beat sound of the two blade. Tomorrow, I will fly the FireFly on its last trip to Painton, Missouri to the EAA Chapter 453 meeting. Two more weeks and we have to be out of the house. I thought the FireFly was going to have to be hangared at Portland, Indiana, but a hangar opened up at the airport (I22) just two miles from my new residence at Winchester, Indiana. It is a little sad to be leaving a neat bunch of guys here, but guys who fly, in general, are pretty neat. Lots of airports within a 50 mile radius. As I have been flying about 10 minutes a month for the winter, I flew during the middle of the day for about 45 minutes to get reacclimatized with thermals, bumps and twisters. It was wonderful fun. Yes, you do! As someone on the list likes to say "Ask me how I know that!" A solution is foam pipe insulation from Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Cut to length, and slice from end to end. As part of post flight checklist, place over prop leading edges. If you don't you will eventually have a hole in your left wing about the same place I do. This winter while using the top of my Kolb as a parts bench, doing some plumbing above it, I dripped some blue-dyed PVC primer on my fabric near the door. Whoops. It was white paint so I tried an old can of "Plasti-Cote" vinyl spray. Matched pretty good, and since it was meant for flexible surfaces, should resist cracking. I have the needle installed wrong! Wondering what rpms to dial in statically? My three hours have been exciting in the Firefly---sn 32. I took divits with my first two landings. :-) I flew with a two blade 62 ivo til now. I dialed the pitch for about 6k or so static. Flew fine that way. I bought five IVO blades from TNK a week or so ago and just now got around to installing them. Anybody need two red blades?? 66 inch? Sometime this summer or fall I am building a set of single lift strut wings--ala Firestar. Gonna use the ribs from the Ultrastar that I have ( I think they are the same rib?) I bought about 40 feet of second hand , 5 inch Tube from Donnie and Travis. The little bird flies nearly hands off with just a bit of nose down tendency . I will trim that out with a bungee . I weigh 205 . The ailerons are better now that I have gap seals. Still very stiff however. Hope that you find a bunch of flying buddies at your new home! Gonna fly to Winchester? This includes some hardware improvements - more memory, faster, more capable processors - as well as a complete operating system upgrade from scratch. I hope to have both the old system and the new system running at the same time to minimize the actual impact of the upgrade. Hopefully there will be little actual downtime during the transition, but a few posts may get lost in the shuffle. If you don't see your post show up on the List in the normal amount of time (plus a little bit), then please just try posting it again. Upgrading the Matronics Email Server operating system (from Redhat Linux 7.2 to Redhat Linux WS 4) is a sizeable undertaking and requires a great deal of work to port all of the utilities, programs, and scripts over to the new system. As I've already mentioned, both the old and new systems will be on line at the same time, so interruption should be held to an absolute minimal. You might see a couple of odd test messages during the cut-over or other odd messages; please just ignore them. I have setup a new System Status Web Page that I will use to update List Members on the current status of the email and web systems. Planned route is from Perryville, Missouri (K02) to Salem, Illinois (SLO) - 72 miles to Sullivan, Indiana (SIV) - 87 miles to Franklin, Indiana (3FK) - 77 miles to New Castle, Indiana (UWL) - 50 miles to Winchester, Indiana (I22) - 30 miles It is going to be a long day and would be much faster to use 100LL, but I have been living with the lady for 40 plus years and she has tolerated my first 11 years of retirement. Now that she is going to be retired too I have to stay on her good side so that I can keep on flying. The route is planned to keep me away from active areas and the chosen airports are located at places with which my wife is familiar. The last two short jumps are planned to let me rest up a little more as I near the end of the trip. My wife will be reporting progress to our kids on the cell phone, so there will be a reception waiting at I22. From New Castle, I will be following my pickup so that my wife will get to I22 first to join in with the arrival party. Tomorrow, I will fly 110 miles round trip to my EAA Chapter 453 meeting and it will give me a better idea of the fuel burn rate with the new prop. I will flying pretty much at constant rpm of 5,500 rpm. This should give me 50+ mphi and a fuel burn rate of less than 2.5 gph. IF so, I will always have at least a gallon of fuel left in the tank upon landing. With no tail wind it will take 15.8 gallons of fuel and 6 hours 20 minutes air time. IF I get the tail wind, it will take 13.2 gallons of fuel and 5 hours 16 minutes air time. When the flight happens, I will keep a log and report how it turns out. Jack B.
