John W/Gang:
Would like to add my congratulations also.
Kolbs have brought home the trophies at Sun and Fun and Oshkosh for
many years. Twenty years ago Homer Kolb's Firestar was Oshkosh Grand
Champion Ultralight 1985. I believe he recently finished rebuilding
it. He always told me he was going to take the 1985 Oshkosh Grand
Champ UL back to OSH to fly on its 20th anniversary.
If I read the awards results correctly, on the Sun and Fun 2005 web
page, Paul's Firestar was Reserve Grand Champion Ultralight.

Steven,
I have 6-in nylon wheels and some nice, big tires that I am very happy with.
I scrounged around the airport asking all the Cub and Aeronca pilots for
worn-out 6.00- 6 tires. I picked two of the lightest (most worn) 2-ply
tires. We have puncture vines on the field so I use tubes. With only 5
psi, these tires give a nice soft landing. They are thick enough to survive
puncture vines, yet still light enough to keep our FF legal at 253 lbs. Of
course, the load rating is way beyond what we need.
Regards,
Bruce McElhoe FireFly #88
