Unfortunately he had been flying earlier in the morning and had turned up an electrical fault and was grounded (or watered) so , No Flight. Shame, I was looking forward to that, but we did chat for a while. My disappointment was to some extent mitigated by flying a jet fighter trainer at Tropical Fighters at Marathon. Nice flight but unfortunately my 75 year old stomach is not quite as resilient as it was when it withstood an hours airobatics in a Mustang only ,(cough, cough) years ago. Consequently after a wingover, a fighter turn and a couple of barrel rolls I had to call `Uncle` or mess up the nice clean cockpit. By the way if anyone flies with that mob, don`t bother to buy the VERY EXPENSIVE DVD of your flight. It is terrible. Unlike the Mustang which had facilities for filming from the fin forward, showing the canopy, the nose and the horizon, plus a camera in the cockpit focussed on me, this a/c had an ordinary domestic video camera held in place by a bungee which filmed me alright but did not pick up any horizon and it is therefore impossible to tell what is happening. The stock shots which were grafted on to the pics of me in the cockpit were of poor quality, cut in badly, and repeated, out of sequence. I apparently took off, twice, and then I was back on the runway. Daylight robbery. Had a chat with the Kolb crew at SunnFun and watched the ultralight circus for a while. Unfortunately I missed John Hauk who had left about an hour earlier. The temperature on the field was very pleasant and nothing like the incredible heat I experienced on my previous visit. The difference in perception of temperatures was made when I stayed with some friends in Delray Beach. Wendy and I spent a most uncomfortable first night there. Like sleeping in front of a furnace. When next day I queried if the air conditioning was on the blink I was told in surprised tones that it had been turned down to 70 degrees specially for us and not the usual 72 degrees they used. Jeez! Last weekend here in the UK was quite warm, shorts and T shirt weather. The outside temp was 68. My best purchase in the US was a shirt with the logo `OLD GUYS RULE.` Yeah! It is as dependable as the 582. About the same time as the 618 came out, Rotax came out with the 80 hp 912. People either bought the 65 hp (582) or the 80 hp(912) and the was no demand for the 75 hp (618), so it was discontinued. I have been very pleased with my 618 and as a note, Rotax recommends Penzoil premium outboard motor oil for use in the 618 only. Well, the DC did until the mike decided not to get along with the A3 transmitter. There is one small cord that plugs into the combination battery box, which holds two 9V bats, and the controller. About the size of a pack of smokes. I haven't decided what I am going to do with the control box. Maybe velcro to my shoulder harness or lay it in the left seat. Hope to get out and test fly with it soon. john h ________________________________ Message 8 _____________________________________ Time: 07:18:17 AM PST US From: "Don Gherardini" Subject: Kolb-List: Rotax gearbox ID --> Kolb-List message posted by: "Don Gherardini" HEY men..... The item reads: EAA's new E-LSA Conversion Kit has everything you need to convert an ultralight to the new experimental light-sport aircraft category, including a I5-page Step-By-Step Conversion Guide that walks you through the process. "We want to make sure the transition process is easy and affordable for owners who decide to transition their ultralights into E-LSAs," said EAA Aviation Services Director Charlie Becker. The step-by-step guide makes the paperwork process as simple and easy to understand as possible. It explains the FAA aircraft registration (N-number) process, including how to get a custom N number, and it contains all the necessary FAA forms. The guide also explains how to prepare for and undergo the airworthiness inspection, right down to where to install the EXPERIMENTAL sticker and fireproof dataplate. EAA's E-LSA Conversion Kit even includes the sticker, the dataplate, and a sheet of decals for required placards. EAA members can get the kit for $12.99 plus shipping. For nonmembers, the price is $19.99 plus shipping. To order, call EAA Membership Services at 800/JOIN EAA (564-6322). I ordered mine and already reserved the N number Bil Ragsdale Mk III N213K sn 213 ________________________________ Message 12 ____________________________________ Time: 12:09:13 PM PST US From: John Jung Subject: Kolb-List: Ear plugs --> Kolb-List message posted by: John Jung Group, It occurred to me, that in my DRE 6000 report, I didn't mention an important part of my ear protection. While flying, I wear expanding foam ear plugs in addition to the headset. For me, Remington's are the best, but any of them help a lot. One might expect them to make the radio more difficult to hear, but it is just the opposite. The prop/engine noise is reduced and the volume on the radio is just turned up some. By turning two on at once, the noise floor adds from both mikes. While there has been some argument over which is better dynamic versus electret mikes, I found that when any headset were used having a dynamic mike, the noise level increased substantially making it almost unintelligible. When used by themselves, the dynamic mike make produce lower noise, but when used with an intercom only supporting a single VOX channel, the noise level gets really bad. jerb do not archive ny time the VOX At 09:27 AM 5/4/05 -0500, you wrote: >--> Kolb-List message posted by: "Christopher Armstrong" > > >The DRE6000 is a standard 2 plug aviation headset... used like any other >headset.
