Hi Richard & gang, My 618 will run at the same rpm all day long. As far as
the fuel burn, I run up there around 5800 rpm in cruise and figure my rate
around 5gph. But to be honest I have never calculated it exactely. My mk3 is
built heavy (like John H.'s) . I usually see 1000 to 1200' fpm climb and cruise
at
65 mph.

Doug,
My first headset/helmet/intercom system when I got a two place was
Ultracom. I could barely talk to my passenger. When I changed to DRE
2000's and a DRE intercom and Ultracom's Pro helmet, it was an
improvement. Then I could talk to my passenger and anyone else who
broadcasts fairly clean. Even with the 6000, if another plane has a
poor system or just too much noise, it can be difficult. I still like
the Ultracom Pro helmets.
You would need a different patch cord for any standard headset/intercom.

<<<<<Sounds like your intercom VOX may be turning on both mikes at the same
time
instead of having separate VOX circuits. By turning two on at once, the
noise floor adds from both mikes. While there has been some argument over
which is better dynamic versus electret mikes, I found that when any
headset were used having a dynamic mike, the noise level increased
substantially making it almost unintelligible. When used by themselves,
the dynamic mike make produce lower noise, but when used with an intercom
only supporting a single VOX channel, the noise level gets really bad.

on b oth sets of headsets i have use i have had to make changes to the mikes
inorder to lower the noise level so that the intercom was opperated at a
level within it capabilities..... on the pilot pa 60's i called the
company and they sent new mikes that were designed for a higher noise
envirment..... on the sigtronics enc headsets i was instructed in how to
decrease the mike gain control,,, both headsets were greatly improved
with the lower mike levels.

Hi Paul/Gang:
John W, Gary H, John H, and Rick N, are planning on going. We plan to
do a flight similar to the one we did two years ago, up the Michigan
"thumb" to the UP, across the south shore of Lake Superior, down to
Scott T's at Iron Mtn, and finally to OSH.

Steven G/Gang:
Don't know that firm dates have been established as of this time. In
2003 I flew up to London, spent the night, then on up to Grand Ledge,
MI, but missed Rick N, then to Linden, MI, but no place to RON, and
finally toSnuffy Smith's place to RON, but he wasn't home. Stayed on
his airstrip anyhow with the mosquitoes. Next day to Bay City for
lunch in the Polish Resturant, and on to St Ignace, MI, to meet up
with John W. In fact, I got John out of his tent when I flew over the
field. Wind was honking and I was trying to find the best way to land
into the wind with out hurting me or the airplane.
Probably fly that same route. If I do, I will be real close to
Etowah, TN.
We'll see what falls out as time goes on.

If you decide to come through Michigan, please keep me advised. While I
won't be going to OSH, I would certainly love to rendezvous with some fellow
Kolbers.
