The engine I have is #1894 which is 85hp. Very happy with Jab. --> Kolb-List message posted by: "woody" <duesouth@govital.net> Static RPM should be the same no matter what airframe or no airframe is holding it. Streamlining will have its major effect on airspeed not engine speed. The prop may not seem big but this is designed for direct drive and a different set of rules apply for picking the prop. Perhaps I should put a warp drive on it for a test. I forgot I had one for this engine. Egt is a good instrument for diagnosis of a problem but not an instrument to fly by. I like to know what is going on in my engine and have the option of choosing what I want to do. Just a personal preference. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Hauck" <jhauck@elmore.rr.com> Subject: Re: Kolb-List: Jabi flight/Prop Pitch and EGT > --> Kolb-List message posted by: "John Hauck" <jhauck@elmore.rr.com> > > It turns 2700 when I > > I am spinning a 58/44 prop > > other > > Woody/Gang: > > Second paragraph is your answer. --> Kolb-List message posted by: "John Williamson" <kolbrapilot2@comcast.net> Woody and All, I have over 500 hours in front of a Jabiru 2200 on the Kolbra. With a 58", 2 blade standard Warp drive, I set the prop pitch to give me 2900 rpm static which would give me 3300 full throttle, straight and level. The airframe will make a big difference in the speed you get so don't expect the 102 mph that I was able to get with the Kolbra, flat out. I did try a 68", 2 blade tapered tip Warp Drive just before I removed the Jabiru. I set the pitch to get 3300 rpm at full throttle, straight and level. At the same rpm as the 58" prop, I was able to get one or two more mph. Great little engine, but was always running up against the CHT limits. I also monitored one front and one rear cylinder with EGT on an EIS. EGT's varied from front to rear because of uneven cooling. Once in a while I would get close to an EGT limit, only thing you can do is throttle way make or go full power to get the mixture as rich as possible. --> Kolb-List message posted by: "Jon Croke" <jon@joncroke.com> Forgive this for being a little off Kolb topic...(!) .. but I wanted to announce that any aviator that didnt have a chance to make it to Sun n Fun last spring has another chance to experience it vicariously thru a DVD video that was just completed. It is of different format than the one I made last year - this one covers all areas of the show rather than just the ultralight field. Lots of pictures from the video are displayed at www.HomebuiltHELP.com Also, the price is only $10 this time due to economies of volume! Thanks to all, Jon Firestar sold, awaiting pickup by new owner. Zenith CH701 almost done.
