John,
you mean you fly without using rudder?. Grief! Its there for a reason, to
balance the turn. If you don`t use rudder the fuselage will slide sideways
through the air. Don`t you remember those `further effects of controls` you

Denny Rowe, Mk-3, PA, Still working on the hanger.>>
That struck a chord.
Years ago I built for my Thruster a T hangar. Framed in scaffolding and clad
with plastic corrugated sheets.
I rejigged it for my Challenger because going tandem instead of side by side
meant the nose was longer and wouldn`t go in.
I have employed a local scaffolding company to remodel the hangar once more
to take the Kolb.
The roof was to be liifted to clear the Jabi in the middle and the tail at
the rear. Also lengthened.
Up to now the company have got the length wrong.
The height wrong.
The plastic sheet profile can no longer be matched so metal corrugated
sheets have to be used. The new sheets have not been hung accurately
vertically.
No attempt has been made to match the sides with slope of the roof so there
is a jagged top edge.
Because the roof sheets didn`t overhang the vertical sheets by much the
`workmen` bent the tops of the sheets inwards. Apparently with a hammer.
The company holds that the hook bolts with which I originally held the
sheets to the scaffolding are `no longer obtainable`. Therefore they used
the bolts from the old fixings and consequently only had enough to fix the
sheets across the middle. No fixings top or bottom.
Jeez!!!
Is everyone in the world today incompetent?
Incompetent politicians we take as a given but this seems now to extend to
doctors, teachers, lawyers, plumbers, shop assistants, officials of every
stripe. No one takes a pride in a job well done and as middle management
seems to have brought incompetence to a level all its own, no one ensures
that the employees beneath them do the job for which they are paid.

Listers,
When I built my Mark 3 Xtra I applied the gap seal to the ailerons only. Now I'm
wondering if I should extend it to include the flap area.
What do most guys do?
Thanks,

I know, I know. My instructor in the C-152 keeps telling me. I've only been flying
a month. It will sink in eventually. Seems that the Firestar has more
adverse yaw then the 152. I'm used to flying R/C planes with coupled rudder or
ones that are fast enough that it doesn't matter.

Pat,
Sorry to hear of your hanger calamity, I hope you get it squared away OK.
Your story underscores why I do my own construction, but of course there is
a penalty to pay in time away from other things.
When I get this thing finished, I'll post pics to the photoshare, it'll be
pretty nice but it has cost me a good season of flying.

Alternative Engines - Geo/Suzuki
If you are interested in alternative engines for
experimental aircraft you are invited to
join the flyGeo_uncensored group and learn about the
fantastic Geo/Suzuki engines used in
aircraft.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FlyGeo_uncensored
Both bolt on gearbox and cog belt redrives and all
other aircraft
conversion parts are available for very reasonable
cost. Turbo
versions are available also. Gearbox type redrives for
around US$1750-
The Geo/Suzuki engine uses about half the fuel that
the two stroke
engines use.
The 1.3 litre four cylinder Suzuki engine beats the
Rotax 912 in
power and weight, again both gearbox and belt type
redrives are
available.
The Geo/Suzuki one litre engine weighs a little more
than a Rotax
582, it produces 62 HP normally aspirated but with a
better, flatter
torque curve.
All those advantages plus flying engines with the
hours up to prove
them and last but not lease, far, far cheaper than a
Rotax two or four stroke engine.
One person on the group has over 1000 hours on one
installation.
FlyGeo_uncensored is a very active and helpful group
that is also a fun group and is not
doubt one of the fastest growing aircraft alternative
engine groups.

Hi Denny,
I shall certainly never post pics of my hangar. It wasn`t too spruce to
start with, but reasonable. Now its hardly good enough to keep the gardening
tools in. Sheesh!

how far does the trailing edge of the aileron move up and down when the
stick travels from full left to full right?
