Hi, My name is Scott and I'm a Kolb-a-holic. I live in northern Indiana.
I've been lurking here for a while now.
Some of you may remember me from the Homecoming in 2003. I was the one flying
the rc plane after dark. J
I had my mind all but made up to build a Firefly but decided against it. I
figure if I'm going to build a plane it may as well be capable of sharing the
fun with a friend so a Mark III Extra is in my future instead.
My plan is to order kit one at the Homecoming this year. My friend Paul and I
will probably provide a little after dinner entertainment again if Donnie
lets us.
I'm sure Ill have lots of questions as time goes on but right now I just
wanted to give a formal HELLO! to everyone on the group.

Is there anyone in the New England are that will be going to the Kolb
Homecoming I am thinking of flying down myself but have never been that far and
I
would really like to go but I prefer to have a wingman if possible and maybe
there is someone on the list that is in the same situation.
I read stories of other Kolbers making long trips (John Hauck)
without any problems and I want to start exploring myself and meet some of
the people on the list. I am hooked on Kolbs and want to take it the extra mile.
anyone can email me off list with there intrest and info on where they are
located so we can get together and make the trip down next month

Pat,
You wouldn't be trying to get us cowboy "rebels" worked up over gas prices
? It worked ! Taxes are at least a buck a gallon here so what does that make
yours? The more socialist a government becomes the more you pay for government
....sounds like you need a "revolution " more than we do.....
I just paid $2.56 for Sunoco 89 octane delivered to keep my thirsty R985
Pratt & Whitney happy on my Agcat. I wish I could retire but the socialists here
in New York have got my retirement money....gotta go to work to pay for the
latest fuel delivery...

Hey Scott!
Welcome from PA. I've flown R/C for 34 years including helicopters, sailplanes,
gyrocopters, and giant scale. My favorite was giant scale. I just recently
transitioned the the "ultimate giant scale" A Kolb Firestar. You too will find
that your R/C flying will be very helpful.

Second was diesel,>>
Hi Thom,
diesel was cheaper than petrol here until about 2 years ago. With the extra
mileage from diesel it was a good deal. The the Taxman saw easy pickings and
diesel is now 94p a litre minimum, petrol around 92p.
There must be alot of money around. I remember when the family owned a
garage many years ago petrol sold for 15 pence a GALLON ( that was when we
had 240 pence to the pound not 100pence) and if fuel price went up a
halfpenny we were on the verge of revolution. Now it goes up three times as
much per LITRE and apart from a bit of moaning everyone goes on just the
same.
LPG is not very common here although it is increasing.
Your proposed $2 increase is to help fight global warming????? Bush doesn`t
believe in that perhaps it is just the extra revenue. Naaaah!
Cheers

It could be a LITTLE worse, for the 4-strokers on av gas.
LL 100 was $3.05 in Roseburg last month,
gas only $2.65 ish...

Pat,
How much do the "real airplane" pilots have to pay for avgas in
England. Our 100 LL (what a misnomer!) runs from as cheap as $3/gal(US)
to well over $4/gal in western NY. It varies all over the place across
this country. Ironically, one of the most expensive places for fuel is
in Texas, where so many of the refineries are located and most of the
big oil companies are headquartered.
Just as ironically, I suppose, the cost of electricity in western NY is
higher than almost anywhere else in the nation and my house is no more
than 15 miles from Niagara Falls, the largest hydro-electric generating
plant on the planet. Hydro power being the very least expensive means
of producing electricity, one would think it would be cheap here, like
in the Pacific Northwest another big producer of hydro power. Politics
and taxes.

I 've been flying RC for a few years now and too think
this helps to understand how plane behaves,ie

Hi Scott,
I remember you. I think I do anyway. Weren't your the fella that made the little R/C electric Kolb? Looking forward to the homecoming and seeing you there once again. This list and it's many fine members are a great help when it comes to building a Kolb aircraft for the first time or for the second or more for that matter. We have been scratching our heads here trying to figure out how to deploy the flaps on this Kolbra (safely) and as of last night after a phone call with a fellow builder I think we have found the solution. It's a flap actuator that is electromechanical. If I understand it correctly it is like power steering to get the job done if you will. http://www.wicksaircraft.com/catalog/product_cat.php/subid5689/index.html
Well times a wasting better get to it gang... Any thoughts on this idea well appreciated....

How do you maintain altitude in a turn if you do not pull back on the

PS: Gang, don't forget to put the DO NOT ARCHIVE notation at the
bottom of your post if the material contained is not worthy of being
permanently deposited in the Kolb Archives. Helps make it a little
easier to find stuff when we go in there looking by holding down the
size of the library. Also...........indicate in your signature block
your name, what you are building and flying, and where you are from.
Let's of old guys know who we are talking to. And lastly, make sure
the subject line is correct and relates to what we are talking about.
If not, change it. Thanks! ;-)

John,
I am training on Rans s12.In a coordinated turn i bank
the plane about 30Deg and coordinate it with ruder .
I was pulling on the stick too hard when i was just
starting so plane would gain some altitude and then go
nose down ,then level up again..Now i rarely (maybe as
i think) pull on the stick in a turn.Don't know maybe
it's a difference in this aircraft or i am getting
used to it:)

Ed/Gang:
Travis said 23 and 24 Sep 2005. The Kolb Homecoming always occurs on
the last weekend of Sep each year.

PS: Bruce Chesnut, owner of The New Kolb Aircraft Company designated
the Kolb Flyins to be known as the Kolb Homecoming. For those that do
not know what homecoming means, well.........that is what it
means.........just what it says. All the Kolbs come home to the Kolb
Factory. Down here in the South, we have "homecomings" at our
churches, especially country churches. Folks that were affiliated
with that church come back for special services and "dinner on the
ground". I guess that is "pot luck" for Yankees. What the Hell do I
know. ;-)
Maybe this one should go in the archives.
