Denny,
These are the switches I'm replacing and they work correctly so it can't be installed
wrong. The mag. check during run-up shows this.
> John,
Sounds like one of your two switches is installed backward.
You want to use the normally open contacts of each switch.

I did the weight and balance yesterday. The Firestar documentation says it should
be between 20% and 37% CG. I'm at 33%, which is farther aft than I expected.
I was going to go on a diet and lose 15 pounds, but this would shift the
CG back further. So more pizza and beer will actually help!!!
I also used the Excel spread sheet send previously to measure the CG and it is
21.5 inches from the leading edge, which does seem aft as calculated by Dennis
Souder's calculations.
I guess it's because of the heavier 503 hanging on the back.
FWIW, the plane weighs 253.889 lbs. ;-)

Wow, 253. That's got to be the lightest "87" Firestar in the world. Mine is
around 330 lb with a 377. How did you do it? Do not archive.

Sounds like maybe you are just reading the coil with your tester. How many
ohms are you reading?

I'm not familiar with your specific application, but generally with an
on-off toggle switch, having the toggle one way will open the points, the
other will close them. There ARE on-on switches made, and possibly "on" one
way would complete the ignition circuit, and the other could ground the
coil. You'd hafta trace the wiring. On a 3 pole switch, they are usually
on-off-on, (closed/open/closed working from the center terminal) and should
show that with an ohmeter. Often, checking a component in-place will
feedback thru the circuits and give a false reading. Best way - if you
haven't already done it - would be to disconnect that center wire and then
test the switch. Hope this helps. Lar.

I got to thinking about this after I sent it, and on-on couldn't work. If
center terminal goes to ground, flipping the toggle one way *could* complete
the ignition circuit, the other way *could* ground the mags, BUT when 1 side
is closed, the other would have to be open. Try disconnecting the switch,
then testing it. Lar. Do not

That's exactly what I did today and I got the results I expected. After some fiddling
with the ground wires I was able to get it to work. The starter works great.
Definitely a worthwhile investment!
Thanks to everyone for their help!
