Mike they do make such a critter Caterpillar makes a sending unit to do just
what you are looking for if you dont find what you need I happen to have a
couple in my shop and can get a part number if you need it

maybe there's an auto sensor that would do the same........a NAPA guy might look

I will even get you a picture of what they look like It came out of a
Caterpillar Front end Loader but its not as heave as you might think sometimes

Remember, it takes a college degree to fly a plane, but only a high school
diploma to fix one. (Reassurance for those of us who fly routinely in their
jobs) After every flight, Qantas pilots fill out a form, called a "gripe
sheet," which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The
mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, and then
pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said
that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual maintenance
complaints submitted by Qantas' pilots (marked with a P) and the solutions
recorded (marked with an S) by Maintenance engineers. By the way, Qantas is
the only major airline that has never had an accident.
P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.
P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.
P: Something loose in cockpit.
S: Something tightened in cockpit.
P: Dead bugs on windshield.
S: Live bugs on back-order.
P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent.
S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground..
P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
S: Evidence removed.
P: DME volume unbelievably loud.
S: DME volume set to more believable level.
P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.
S:That's what they're for.
P: IFF inoperative.
S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.
P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you're right.
P: Number 3 engine missing.
S: Engine found on right wing after brief search.
P: Aircraft handles funny.
S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious.
P: Target radar hums.
S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics.
P: Mouse in cockpit.
S: Cat installed.
And the best one for last..................
P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding
something with a hammer.
S: Took hammer away from midget.

there are two different capacitance fuel level sender probes that i am aware of....
1 westach 2 prinston both can be wired into a stand alone gague or can
be ordered to readout on an EIS. both can be calibrated so that the level in
the tank and the readout on the gague are the same.... the one that i have
on my mkIII has 5 calibration points. empty, 1/4 , 1.2 , 3/4 , full. and
it reads out in tenths of gallons on my EIS... along with the EIS master warning
light, the aux input also has an adjustable alarm point... so when i
get down to 3 gallons the warning light flashes...

Search the archives and all the info is there...I have some experience
with this engine but the info you need is in the archives ....put there by
individuals on this list with lot's of experience with these motors...
The one thing I do know is that Cuyuna had a problem with too tight
piston cylinder clearances at manufacture...I have corrected both of my engines
for this problem...

I flew a Cayuna 430D for a couple years and never had a problem. I was,
however, informed by the local Rotax guru's that Cayuna was a Tonkawa indian
word for "falls from sky"

Kolbers, alas, 'tis the time of the year to put the kolb in the shop.
But not before this morning's excursion to the last local flyin
breakfast.
I knew it would be breezy and the trip sure was a busy one.
I touched down gently on the airport's (shudder) paved runway,
taxied gallantly to the parking lot where the FAA guy who inspected
my plane for airworthiness helped me tie down. Glad the ropes
were substantial. After wolfing down the usual cold vittles and
talking to a Firestar owner who parks his plane there, I figured I
better get
going while it was only treacherous. I had a good audience and didn't
want to disappoint them. Headwind? hoo boy! Full throttle and UPPPP.
-followed by DOWN, fortunately just skimming the tires on the ground
before
whizzing back up again. After a roller coaster departure and a quick
ascent to pattern alt, a downwind turn to mach I groundspeed.
Home in the blink of an eye, 70 mph to touchdown (slow rollout)
My brother helped me fold the wings and stuff it in the shed.
When this little breeze quiets down I'll haul it down to the shop.
All in all a good season, no bumps, no bends. A few more
mods to go.

Mitty,
It's a great engine. Run it at 40:1, I used Klotz synthetic from
snowmobile catalogue. Jet it to run 1050 full throttle, & 1150 cruise.
Watch out for 7/8 throttle position, as it often gets real lean there. Make
sure you go thru the trouble of removing the engine after 20 hours &
retorque the base bolts or you will end up with a leak. -Richard Swiderski

I hear ya......I didn't get mine flying til the END of the Flying
season ( April - Nov.) and now it's pretty
much "in" for the Winter......I'll do some more work on it.....but won't be flying
it for around 5 months or so...
But like you said...a good season, no bumps or bends.....and the anxiety of the
first flight is gone....
and I can't help smiling , knowing , I beat "Big Lar" in the Air....he he he

I cant believe you guys are putting your birds away for the winter I like
winter flying more so ,than in the hot weather Better lift and smoother air and
airstrips Everywhere frozen lakes any snow covered fields it doesnt get any
better than winter flying becides that theres not much else to do in the winter
but go ice fishing Lake hopping and fish for a few minutes and when you stop
by som other people fishing there more than happy to drill you a hole in the
lake or even pull there trap so I can do some jigging while they feast there
eyes on my little flying machine

Hi all, Ellery and other winter flyers, do you change your main jets, move
the clip on the needle, on make no carb. changes when the temp goes down? I
have thought about flying in the winter, but I hate to mess with my carbs,
since I have them dialed in for summer temps. Lanny Fetterman F.S.
II 598 P.S. The EAA suggested that I get a student pilot
license.
N-number my airplane, and then take the practical test to get my sport
pilot rating. So I made an appointment at the local FSDO to get the
student license. I hope this all comes together at some point in time!
