Hi Dave/All:
Great!
Sorry I missed the first flight, but was hauling JD's out of TN and
MS, all weekend.
Am anxious to see the finished product.
Dave's MKIII is configured like mine. There is another MKIII in
Lucedale, MS, that is also configured like Miss P'fer, with the main
gear moved forward of the normal position, modified by John Cooley.
Congratulations!

cant believe you guys are putting your birds away for the winter >>
Hi All,
I wish that our seasons were as clearcut as your seem to be. I have not been
able to fly for the last 2 weeks but am reluctant to actually lay the old
girl up as there MIGHT be a few more decent days to come.
We dont get the benefit of many cold clear windless days, the winter tends
to be rain, wind and clag but you never know it MIGHT be OK on Saturday so I
wont lay her up just yet.
The clocks went back last weekend, that is another variable in the equation
which makes flying a little more unlikely.
Still waiting for Permission to Test Fly the Xtra as the weather
deteriorates, but she looks very smart and uptogether and keen get some wind
under her wings.
Cheers

Which reminds me...
If you want to catch a Polar Bear you take some garden peas and a saw.
With the saw cut a hole in the ice and when the bear comes down for a pea,
kick him in the icehole!

Kolbers,
An Update:
I was just trying to catch up on my emails from the list and noticed
that Rick N. asked about Uncle Craig. I'll share a quick update- We
are painting the nose and flap and then reassembling the Mark III Xtra
for flight. All we have to do is mount the tail, bolt seats in and give
it a good go over. The heat is finaly starting to break here in the
desert and we are now serious to get flying this winter.
My Firestar II has its wings masked and is waiting to spray some color
on them. Once that is done all I need to do is settle on what type of
oil to run in the 503, break the engine in, bolt the wings on and fly.

OK , Who wants a SALTY airplane.........I don't.......If I towed my airplane in
the winter , That's what I would get....
What's that got to do with FLYING in the winter......Like "I've" said....I'll
just go rent a PA-12.....their fun to fly too...
and they land on lakes too...
Ralph flies his in the winter , but he told me he only has to trailer it one mile
away.......and he said he STILL washes
it down when he gets it back home.....
If I had it Hangered....That would be different....
Gotta Fly...

If you want to move to Canada I can sell you a nice little farm with a 1500
ft strip and enough hanger space to hold about 10 Kolbs
I went ice fishing once too. Caught about 300 lbs of prime Canadian ice.
Flooded the house trying to cook it.

Tim
Thanks for the update. I assume Craig will be very careful with who he lets
fly his rebuilt bird. As before I'm very interested in flight speeds with
that cowled Extra.
Also good to hear that you are getting close on you Firestar II. For those
that haven't seen these airplanes, they set new standards for innovation and
quality construction.
Now that Craig and Tim have been heard from what about Duncan McBride?

Ellery and group...i know your intentions are good but don't set
yourself up for a law suit, just give them the plans and have them do it
them self and even be careful of that since it is your design that might get
someone in trouble.
i know you are just trying to help others that maybe don't have the know how
but be careful in the process. i'am sure you don't want anyone to noseover
in their kolb and say it was a skis design when it might have been just the
deep snow.
thanks,
Gary r. voigt
i will miss my kolb this winter but maybe i can fly my old kolb to the
person i sold it too.

Thanks for your concerns Gary
I have my own design of skis I am not copying anyone else's so they might
not work for you even though I have been using them and I am not reliable for
someone else's installation or experience of the use of skis just trying to be
a nice guy and help others out that might not have the tooling or knowledge of
how to get into winter flying without spending a minum of $800.00 for a pair
of skis
I realize there are a lot of people out there this day and age looking to
nail another lawsuit so if you put it that way I will just weld the frames
together and let you install the bottom skins and make up your own cables and
bungies and do your own rigging its your ass in the sling not mine and I had better
let this go in to the archives so no one can say I said it will work Have a
nice winter
