Has anyone got a trick for getting a reliable tachometer signal from a Key
West Regulator ? I am using the lighting coil signal (Rotax 582) to drive an
analog tach but want to use the one on my ESI also. Kuntzleman believes it can
be done but Grand Rapids Technologies says I need a different rectifier
(Tympanium 3 phase). Any past experience here?

Finished up my fuel system for Ms Dixie and thought I would share some photos of
my fuel sump.
First we milled a block of aluminum and cross drilled the ports 2 on top.

Good idea Paul, but I would would have kept the the drains separate.
That way you could tell which tank was making water or trash. Also,
if one valve leaks you won't run out of fuel. It wouldn't weigh
anymore, just another valve.
Just something to think about.

I don't think Paul will mind if I respond to your suggestion.
Paul has looped the fuel line around the tail boom with the drain in
the bottom. Only has one fuel tank. So.......fuel is coming down one
side and back ukp the other.
I did this with my MKIII when I built it. However, I was not near as
fancy as Paul. Instead of the machined block of aluminum, I put a "T"
fitting, then ran a drain line forward to the lowest point of the
fuselage, which was between the gear legs. Near the end of the drain
line and inside the fuselage I installed a Briggs and Stratton nylon
fuel shut off valve. Works great.

Hi Tom/All:
Yes, the standard configuration for the Kolbra is two plastic jugs.
Same for the MKIII and the FSII.
Ten gallons won't get you very far, so a lot of us come up with much
larger fuel systems.

Don't know about the grease. But be careful if you give it any gas, it
will go past the redline quicker than you could imagine.

Hi and I found a Kolb Flyer for a Reasonable price, and was wondering if
it would be worth owning. I already own two Ultrastars and will
hopefully be flying Them by this summer. I finally got enough traning
in a Quicksilver and have been flying solo to get comfortable with 3
axis.
I was wondering if anyone out there would like to coontact me off list
and tell me some of the pro's and cons of the flyer.
I was kinda wanting to also have it as a collectors Item. The previous
owner was told He could no longer fly it HE was fling it till he turned
91, It needs Tons of TLC and rebuild from inside out.
I would like to call you on my dime if possible, CUZ I hate typing.
PS there sure was a lot of good discussion on 2 stroke vs 4 stroke and
all comments were valuable.

Over the last 9 months that I have been on the "list", the subject of installing
larger gas plastic tanks has been fully discussed but some how I missed the
final conclusion(s). I am building an Xtra and I'm very close to covering the
cage, so knowing the "final" answer is becoming paramount.
Question: Are there "sturdy" (safe) gas tanks available that have a capacity larger
the 5 gallons and will fit in the cage without any significant modifications?
If so.. would you recommend them? How can I find them?
Again, I don't want to start a debate but rather just understand your personal
conclusions.

Dave I wouldnt even think of starting that engine without a prop on it if
your carb is just cracked open a bit it could race beyond red line Be a sharp
pain and a Puff of smoke then you could be looking at purchasing another engine
as far as the Grease for your bearings I would use RED Tacky if you can get
it in your area if not any Premium RB quality grease would be ok

I have no personal knowledge of larger plastic tanks that will fit our
airplanes. Perhaps others on the Kolb List will give you some help in
that area.
Most of the folks I know fabricated aluminum tanks to fit their
particular needs.

part number FU825GT cost more, but it is the same tank. What modifications
did you have to do?

All these are HDPE plastics, same as the supplied tanks. They have
a size/volume calculator......

John, try Summit automotive parts supply, their plastic tanks are designed and
used in race cars, have impact resistance, anti-spill valving in case of being
inverted and also have electric sending units available, and sizes up to 15 or
20 gallon. i have installed their 5 gallon model in the Piet i am building.
also filler cap is large, sealed against spillage and is locking. Gene

Dennis and I are probably the only ones on the list that have built and
flown a Flyer. As the designer Dennis would be the best one to give you
advice. However if you rebuild it to fly it I would be sure it has the Solo
engines. Solo is the engine name not the configuration. All Flyers had twin
engines. The little Chryslers were not dependable. I would also add a few
full ribs rather than the partial ribs the design called for. The lift
struts seemed skimpy but were probably calculated to take the stress. I
would still go to 1 1/8 tube for the front struts. I have home movies of my
flyer and it seems there is a lot of movement in the tail boom. If the cage
can be modified and the C.G. worked out perhaps a 5" tube would be better.
Hopefully Dennis will comment on this project. Homer once told me he felt
the fabric was the weak part of the design. I proved the crashworthiness of
the flyer also. It was the first but not the last time I played lawn dart
with a Kolb. There is a Flyer at TNK if you make it down to the next
homecoming you can see it. Good luck.

I do not have any experience with the Key West unit but have heard of others
having problems with them in the past.
I have come to find the folks at Grand Rapids Tech to be very reliable.
