--> Kolb-List message posted by: Lanny Fetterman <donaho@csrlink.net>
Hi All, I am still working on the Sport pilot certificate. I must have
it
by January 31 2007, if I am to be given credit for my ASC rating. That
means I only have one flying season left to complete the process. The USUA
has requested more time to meet the requirements. If you would also like
more time you can comment on the proposal to the FAA. If you are
interested, start by going to the USUA web site and click on the LATEST
NEWS tab. Then click on Petition Issued Docket Number 7-5-05 Tab. That will
take you to a page, that talks you through the comment process. The more
requests for the extension they receive, the better the chances they will
comply. Lanny Fetterman N598LF Jumping through one FAA hoop at a time

Not quite as off topic as the jet pack, but here's what the Ultrastar
ultimately
evolved to. Mr. Barber of NZ is still building at age 67 but
unfortunately
does not offer a kit or plans. My hat is off to him big time.

While jet engines for RC planes are about that size and can produce 32
pounds of thrust each, and you could make enough thrust with 8 of them....
This kid obviously has no idea what he is doing or and has no concept of CG.
With the engines rear mounted behind his body like that, it would never
fly, it would just pitch him into forward circles probably breaking his neck
before he ever left the ground.

For the last two days, the web based portion of this list has been all
messed up. Used to be that whenever you read messages, it opened one new
window, and whatever message you click on from then on appears in that
window. For the last two days, every message I click on opens a new window,
so I end up with 20 windows open before long, very annoying and very user
unfriendly. Anyone else noticed this ???

Maybe, there is some infiltration of spy-ware or ad-ware on your pc?

2-Jim Hefner: We need to know if you are bringing your Kolb
trailer. If so, we will tent camp up the hill in the regular place. If
not, wewill tent camp down in the tent camp area. Soon as we confirm
this, then the other folks that are coming in with RVs will know where
themajority of the tent campers and folks that fly in are going to
be.We like to get as many of the attendees as possible camping as
closetogether as possible. Part of the Kolb family thing at MV, ya
know.
3-John W, Gary H, and I are planning on stopping off at Moab again. We
camped out on the tarmac for three days last year with Jim Hefner. We
would like to know if anyone else is interested in camping with us for
a few days. This will give those that may be driving to Alvord
a chance to make some road miles while the "birdmen" do a little
flying and messing around the Moab area.
John's / Gang, Happy New Year to all!!
At this point, I am planning to bring the Firefly and trailer to MV, barring any
unforeseen events. I may also go up to Moab again with you guys, but at this
point can't commit to that right now.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at MV again in May. I'm headed for China
on the 18th for 2 months, so I won't be following the Kolb list regularly, but
I plan to check email at least weekly if possible. Drop me an email if you
need to reach me.

Hi John,
My wife and I should be flying up this year. Red, White, Blue with Stars Kolb
Mark III Classic, 912S.
Anyone in Arizona want to fly with us?
We are coming up out of Tucson.
Roger & Lynn Lee
-------------------
Roger, there will most likely be 2 Zenith 701 912S's flying up from Tucson. One
is right close to your hangar (Ken ?) and the other is my friend, Ron Lee, who
you met recently at Ryan when he was flying with Ken. Ron is finishing up
his 701 now and should be finished in time to have the bugs out before flying
to MV. You should talk to Ken. Should be a nice 3-some to fly up to MV together.

Maybe we should just aim the jets AT Vamoose. :-) That'd end THAT problem.
Lar. Do not Archive.
P.S. Just for science' sake, I think I'm gonna be Mr. NiceGuy and send 1 of
those failed pumps to the engineer at Walbro. It'd be interesting to find
what happened. Unfortunately, I have no alternative to electric pumps
because of the fuel infection. :-) Generally, they're good. How many
millions of cars are running them now, and rarely a failure.
Ahhhh..........the Luck o' Lar. Sigh. Do not

I think he knows very well what he is doing!! :-) Look at the
deposit... 100k.. Unfortunately all one has to do is make a "good faith"
effort at producing something to get away with it.. The fools are the
ones who send in the deposit.. Herb

Brother Green:
I believe the "standard" Mikuni furnished with the 447 SC is still the
single outlet rectangular
shaped DF-44... that's what came with mine, anyway...and that is the pump
shown for
the SC engine in the Rotax literature. It is about $20 at Spruce or
Lockwood.
Can't say I recall ever seeing anyone run one of the two outlet pumps on a
SC engine with
one of the ports plugged or the two outlets siamesed together.
Might be OK, but then again, there could be some arcane mismatch in pressure
or flow or somesuch using the 2 carb
pump into 1 carb... Since the "correct" pump costs so little, I'd be
tempted to just go ahead and get one... that
plugged extra port under pressure or additional tee plumbing would be just
one more thing to worry about.
Mebbe you can sell the new 34b to someone with 2 carbs...
Good Luck,
Beauford

Hi Jim,
I've been flying the wings off with all this 70-75 degree weather this winter.
I just flew today south to the Santa Rita Mnts., over to Vail, Az and back to
Ryan airfield. Wed. I'm going to fly to Nogales, then to Benson and back to
Ryan.
Do you have a way to contact these two gentlemen?

Vic you only have 1917.4 miles from KMLT to get there 6.1 miles more than I
would have from KBGR its 1911.3 Get your plane done then we will do some flying
I would love to go to MV fly-in but I need to sell the firestar and get into
a Mk3 Classic to make trips like that
Anyone willing to make a deal on a classic for me and take in trade a nice
firestar with skis wheels floats and trailer ready to go just add Pilot and
fuel
I am interested MK 3 classic in a fixer upper ,total wreck it dosent matter
to me I will probably rebuild it and make changes to it anyway

Robert or anyone else'
I know you can get GPS software that allows you to use a palm pilot or
even better a laptop for a moving map. Is there also any way to interface
engine sending units?
I'm not really sure. Does an EIS monitoring system change analog at the
sender or at the panel?

DeLORME makes a gps that plugs into a serial port on a lap top or
palm...the one I have has the name Earthmate Hyperformance gps receiver..
and will work on DeLORME mapping software... there are probably others.
It seems that some of the newer palms have a gps built in.
I have used the garmin pilot lll and it worked very well.. But I have
been spoiled with the larger screen on the 196, it works wonders in the
air,,, and with the street mapping software it works wonders in the car..
Coming through the spaghetti bowl in Portland my wife turned to me and said
that the thing just paid for itself. I have not yet bought the
navitagable waters maps.. however color on the 296 may be nice...
