In a hard Kolb landing you will wish you had some toe-in, but I agree with you about the toe-out handling advantage. ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 04:08:43 AM PST US From: "Robert Bennethum" Subject: Kolb-List: Mk II For Sale I just lowered the price on my Mk II to $9900. If you are keeping it, go with John H's idea in his post. If you are selling it, go to a motorcycle shop, get a battery to fit the space, spend $35, and pocket the difference. I am using a Yuasa motorcycle battery, it spins the 582 quite well, and lasts about three years before needing replacement. Several years ago I built, flew, and then sold an Anglin J-6. It was a good airplane, I flew it for several years, up to Oshkosh and back, and got a write up from Mary Jones on it in the October 1994 Experimenter magazine. It flew very well, the only reason I sold it is that flying myself and the wife out of a short strip with a big power line just off the end was not a good option. It had no trouble getting me and a child in and out, but not two full size adults, so I sold it to buy my MKIII. The buyer was a close friend who died two weeks ago, had a sudden stroke. His wife has the airplane up for sale, where is, as is. And here is the "as-is" part: Her husband had an incident two years ago with it, a bolt broke, the big rear spring the tailwheel was mounted to slewed sideways, the airplane went off the runway and hit a ditch before he could get it stopped. It knocked the main gear cockeyed, and caught the ground with the left wingtip. It dented one tube on the motor mounts, and cracked the lower cowling in a couple places. I welded up new main gear and shock struts, and repaired the motor mount. My friend was not a fast worker, he liked to go to the airport and piddle with it, but he did have it almost all back together. He and I were planning to rehang the engine this month. I have not looked at it in lately, but I think he was almost done with everything that needed doing. I will need to look in the logs, but best I remember - it stalls around 38, cruise is around 75, handles good, controls are light, stalls are gentle. Climb solo was about 7 - 800 fpm, dual about 500 fpm. Has electric flaps, strobe, day and night VFR legal. It has a Rotax 532, low time with an almost new B box. It has a new PowerFin prop still in the box that goes with it. It has a Terra 720 radio and a Narco transponder, and a SoftCom intercom. It weighs about 620 empty, with gross of 1200, (I think) and it has a baggage compartment behind the seats for a tent or whatever. Fuselage is all steel tube, wings are all wood, covering is Ceconite, brushed and sprayed with Randolph. I think she will want around $8500 for it, but may take less. Attached are some pictures. For more info email me off list, or call me at 423-323-9441, I will try and get hold of the logs and go take a look at it so I can more accurately describe it. It is in a hangar at Abingdon, Va. - VJI Also - just before he died, the owner had also purchased a new Sporty's SP200 hand held nav/com for $325, she will sell it for $275. I will start shopping this airplane & radio around locally for her next week, but I thought you guys might be interested in first crack. We were at least 500 ft agl, (these things are ~700 ft high) and the spires were more than 100 yards from each wingtip. The telephoto lens makes 'em look very close, but it was plenty exciting as it was. Could it be that the slight increase in length make the tail heavier thus help reduce the FireFly's tenancy to nose over under the right conditions. We had an early model FireFly and it would go over pretty easy compared to the FireStars. Usually occurred when you were slow and the only harm was the pilots embarrassment being stuck with the nose on the ground and the tail up in the air. I know I had asked/suggested they move the gear forward just a little or extend it to help reduce this tendency - could they had incorporated it, if so that is a good thing. jerb At 11:09 AM 6/7/2006, you wrote: >--> Kolb-List message posted by: "Jack B.
