You're right. Rivet the fairing to the wing gap seal. Mine took a great deal
of fiberglass work to fit properly.

I went to install my prop for the first time the other night and the
stepped bushing that goes in the 912IULS hub would only go in to the
second step. I have not mic'd it yet but it does not look like it will
fit. I wanted to check with some else before I tried to force them in
and damage the hub. I have too much money invested in this eng. Better
to ask a stupid question than plunge ahead. Has any one else had this
problem? I e-mailed TNK Friday but have not heard from them yet. Rick

On my Xtra this piece is riveted to the gap seal/greenhouse and then
velcroed to the wings. The entire assembly comes off for wing folding opening
up the
whole top of the airplane.

John obviously gets away with 3/4" clearance but be very careful cutting
that clearance any further. There is a lot of gyroscopic forces acting on
that prop as you go thru turbulence. Make sure with any engine mounting that
the engine can't flex on its mount enough to have a prop strike on the
fuselage tube.

Hello Guys,
Would like to know how many washers you Mk111 & Mk111xtra guy's
have under the engine. The print calls for 3 in front and 2 in the back
on top of the mounts. That is the way I have mine.
I would like to know if some of you have changed them any like
lowering the front of the engine some. I had rather hear from some of
you that has done this before I start experimenting. It looks like you
would get a better cruse if the engine was lowered in the front a
little.
Thanks in advance for all your info. You can contact me off list if
you want to.
Does any one know how Hauck has his?
Thanks again

Man , a half inch clearance to me is scary unless one has a BRS attached, forward
of the prop radius. But sometimes it's fun to live dangerously.

Went down today. What a loving God I serve!
Wind was out of the North East, Landing on a field East. Building (hanger) blocked
the air, wind went out from under me. Plane was traveling 50 at 1180 ASL,
field is 1,140 ASL. Approximately 100 feet from edge of strip. Probably (?) applied
power while slightly (?) pulling stick back. BOOM!
Pictures attached. First: God thank you for covering my, you know what. Second,
Thank you Homer Kolb for the cage and the sissy bars. Third, Thank you Andy
Humphrey, Instructor for instilling the right things to do, even if I didn't apply
them all at the same time.
Total damage, not including engine which will be checked out for crank damage;
prop, sissy bars, underwear (just kidding), Pitot tube!
That's right, no wing damage, no tail end damage, no nose damage (fiberglass),no
tube damage, or landing gear, OR CAGE damage, thank you Homer, a little soy
beans, a very small amount of pride (don't have much of that left, thank you Jesus),
Chute did not deploy, thanks to the builder for putting it underneath rather
than on top, and lastly, no physical damage!
Soy field usage: 40 feet total for landing! Removed wings, turned over, pulled
back into hanger. Looked over for additional damage, found none. Will go over
with instructor next week and check closer.
When I got out the gas tank discharged slowly all 6 gallons of fuel: mags off,
power off, fuel pump off. Remove camera, cell phone, car keys, and asked myself:
" wonder what it's gonna cost to get back in the air"! Not: "wonder what somebody
would give me for this piece of &^%$%@$#".
Instructor said, "Proof, that I will fly again, and again, and again"!
Now need to find cheap new 66" x 3/4 wood prop, old one is on office wall AND on
hanger wall , next to instructors old Avenger's prop!
Exceeding my ability here in Ohio, but learning more each time Ralph!

I feel your pain! I to am a believer and am glad you are OK. Yes these
planes are not only fun to build and fly but when things go amiss I am
glad to be in a Kolb. Hope this does not take all the wind from your
sails and you get it in the air soon.

Brother Pike ..
I have been doing some trim changes on my Mk111. I installed one
of the brackets that Steve Green designed on the left wing which took
care of the slight turn to the left. It flies straight and level now
without a trim tab on the aileron. I took Mr. Haucks advise and changed
the pitch on my prop, and like he said [ what a difference ] it made.
It flew better today than it ever has. I am still using a trim tab on
the rudder which will stay there.
It looks to me like the center- line of the engine should be
close to the same as the bottom of the wing. I will get the prints out
tomorrow and do a little checking. I hope I am making my self clear here
so don't get down on me to hard....
Any way I am getting ready to go and do a little
picken-an-grinning tonight. Maybe by the time I get back you guys will
have some good advice for me.Richard as long as you have flying Kolbs
you probably already know.

Why do you think that? Not disagreeing, just asking. You must have

Hi Ralph,
someone certainly smiled on you from the sound of things. From what you
describe you hit turbulence downwind of the hangar, or just an exaggerated
wind gradient and she stopped flying. Hard luck! Glad that you were not
hurt.
You say that you had to turn her over to retrieve the machine from the soya
bean field. During my burst of stupidity when I hit the barn the wing was
destroyed but also it was forced back. I have found since that the cotter
pin holding the front of the wing to the cage was bent so the force exerted
must have been considerable. This will entail a very careful examination of
the straightness of the cage. You may well find something similar. Hope not,
but check
Good luck
Pat

Ralph, Glad to hear you're in one piece and the Firestar, too.
If that 66 X 28 prop I offered will help you get back in the air, it's yours
to use. I'm 1900 miles away, but my girl friend can have it at Fedex in the
morning. Let me know if that will work and send your address.

Been there, done that, not in a Kolb. Upside down on the ground with the gas
dripping up the windscreen. Happy about the way Cessna built their 180s.
Also had microburst at Yuma take me off runway through the gravel, stayed
upright and dead calm after. Watched a twin land and he got dropped about 50
feet over the numbers and he or co-pilot reported it. When I went in to
check weather for rest of flight was told a guy almost came through their
office window facing the runway the day before, and windshear or some weird
turbulence almost took me through a complete roll at Palm Springs on
takeoff, maybe a hundred feet above Mother Earth.
My last C 180's name was Inshah'allah...God's Will. She never let me down,
though mechanics and AI's did.
Looks like the wind was still about 3 to 7 across in one of your jpgs. It
probably flowed over the hangar and then toward the ground. Friend had that
happen in high mountains and lost a fast 5K feet and came out of it about
100 feet higher than you did, just over the treetops.
Get well; get your bird well.
