Bob Bean and I were planning on flying down to the TNK Homecoming on Saturday morning
but regretfully must scrub the mission due to really nasty weather forecast
along the entire route. Even if it were not IFR in many places the 40 knot
headwinds would kill all the fun. Live to fly another day.
I hope you guys who do/did make it have a great time.

I'l bet you would love to be at the Kolb Fly-in. Did you read my piece on
getting to the factory early? >>
Hi Ralph,
I did indeed read your piece. Lucky you. I hope to make it one year but it
is a toss up between Kentucky and Monument Valley . Dont think I can justify
2 trips to the States one year so I wil have to spread it a bit.
Trouble is that the restrictions imposed by the so called `war on
turrurists` make what was just a boring flight in to something which is a
real pain in the backside. Being welcomed into the States by a 6ft wide
black woman snarling `Dont cross the yaller line until I call` does not
make it an experience I look forward too.. Such a pity because all the
people I have met in the States have been helpful and friendly. With the
exception of my waiter at Sardi`s but thats another story.
Cheers
Pat

Hi John,
found a reference on another list to `Montana Scabbards`.
It is apparently a very lightweight scabbard to hold a gun, fishing rods,
golf bag or whatever on a bike. Remembering that you carry a rifle on some
of your expeditions I thought it might be interesting to you...Maybe worth a
look
Cheers

Well, it is kind of a long story and embarrassing. This happened on my
second takeoff and, to make it short the cross wind was prob only 3 to 6
knots but I was brand new with the kolb and for some reason I took off with
only 1/2 throttle or less, sort of gentle it in the air I guess. The 503
has tons of power. (I have only flown 150's, 172's, and my rv 6 (tail
wheel) and never take off with less than full power. Go figure.) in
retrospect I should have learned it in a no wind situation.
I taxied it around, ok there, and when I took off the wind just took me off
runway and picked up the upwind wing. The ailerons had no effect, I guess
that I was too slow and my friend said that the wing was only 2 in off the
ground when this happened.
I cant even say that I hope this helps someone else, no one else would be
that foolish. I will say that on landing when they are done flying- They
Are Done Flying.
Well, now I have parts. The cage is bent and prob cant be straightned, at
least not without a lot of work.
I figure that alum alone ought to be worth 50 to 100 dollars. :-) will
get pics up prob next wk.
