You're absolutely right about pilots magnetically drawing together
at parties, meetings, etc. Richard Bach wrote quite a bit about this.
Good also that old enemies can socialize peacefully & friendly-ly.
But many of the poor Args in the Falklands didn't even know where
they were, or why. No reason for them to bristle at the Brits
Can't imagine anyone butchering the English language worse than some
of us Ameddicans do --

Hi all,
As a relatively new member to this list, ( MK-3 owner, for a year in
1996 ), & recently acquired MK-3 owner again), I see posting from people
all over the place, with hints of who has what plane & their locations.
For instance, the guy that has a MK-# 2 miles off of I-81 & the guy in
Nashville thinking of building a MK-3.
My question is this, is there a map, or listing available that shows
who`s got what Kolb model & geographically where they are?

Most people that out the trick - don't know the trick and
have never seen the trick.
Not so much the pant leg as the magnets.
That's why it cost so much.
This is not for the inexperienced. These can break fingers if a
mistake is made. This is absolutely the strongest, most dangerous
product they carry. Please, don't buy these unless you know what
you're doing and are prepared to store it carefully away from
children and other folks inexperienced with large, dangerous magnets.
I'm not outing the trick either - it's way too expensive for what you
get in materials, but
you'll never figure it out yourself.
And yes - like Larry says "Possums, you are so full of crap"

My computer or my dialup connection doesn't agree with the website
referenced below so I probably am not listed on it. I am located in Etowah,
TN, just a few miles SE of you and I fly a MK 3 with 912 engine.
Kip Laurie did have a database that was very useful for the info you are
looking for but I think it is down now. Anyone know about the database?

Hello Jim,
Welcome back to Kolb flying! I am a newbie myself, picked up a Firestar II with
503 about a year ago, but still am working on finding the time to get some
training before I take her up. Has been my favorite line of aircraft for many
years walking the vendor section at Oshkosh, and finally have one in the backyard!
I am located in Manchester, not very far from you. GPS coords 3529.59N 08602.44W
I built a small grass strip here and am currently working on the hangar. About
half way complete with that project.
I think you will find this email group to be very informative and helpful...
with a great sense of humor and an occasional surprise or two! Its full of great
folks who love flying Kolbs.
There is a great flying club in the Nashville area I would highly recommend you check out, Middle Tennessee Ultralight Group. They usually meet the 3rd Thursday each month at BNA. Talk a look at their website http://www.mtug.us/index.php

Jerb,
Thanks for the comments on the shop construction. You are very observant, yes,
the building sidewalls are nested in a trough groove along the foundation. Your
concerns about water damage is a legitimate one, were the walls to be left
standing in the open trough. But once the building is completed, squared, level
and bolts tightened these troughs will be filled in with a concrete grout.
Attached is a picture of my brother in laws building we erected over 10 years
ago showing the grouted in wall. The grout fills in the trough area both inside
and outside the wall.
This is one of this buildings strong points, as after the grouting process the
building has been rated to withstand 125 MPH winds. Its overall design is an
extremely strong method of construction and very easy to assemble without the
need for a professional crew (me, my dad, sisters, nieces and nephews are putting
this up ourselves!). The sheet metal skin acts as the structure so there
are no beams, poles or other structure needed. After building my bro in laws,
I was quick to buy one for myself but it took me 10 years to find the right place
to set it up! Glad its finally going up!
If anyone has any question about its construction, please feel free to ask. Will
post a few more pics as work progresses.

The reason I ask will not rain travel down the wall and fill it up channel - being
at the same level as floor inside will not water come inside. A difference
in height between the wall and inside floor is a good design to minimize that
occurring, but with the outside edge it forms a channel with both being the
same height might cause you water problems. I see where the channel would help
during erection. If the outside perimeter of the channel were slightly lower
than the level of the floor, it might prevent water migrating inside but I would
be concerned about a rust problem over time with your wall setting in a trough
of water and dirt.

My 503 with gual Ducati ignition is supposed to have plug gaps of .014 - .018 per
the manual. I can be hard to start if the plug gap is larger than spec.
