The Main shape was done buy taking a piece of Aluminum "Channel" ( square - not tapered flanges ) I put it through a "Roller" at work ....curve it alittle , lower the roller, do it again until I got the radius that was close..... From there it was a matter of hitting it with a deadblow hammer against wood , to get the shape even closer. After I got it's shape as close as I could , I then cut off one of the flanges....and used the deadblow / wood to fit even closer.... Trying to do this with angle from the start is a mess ..... The channel really helped.... After the basic shape was done , I used my TIG to do the detailed wrap around for bolting it in the existing holes.... I'll probly add two bolts around 10 & 2 O'clock (Stainless bolts because of the Compass) .. .. . Gotta Fly... -------- .. .. .. .. .. Cheers Pat ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 05:12:00 AM PST US Subject: Kolb-List: Re: MKIII Dihedral From: "David Lucas" Richard, Seems like your a little disapointed in the results after all the trouble of increasing dihedral. Vis; > it was still impossible to pick up a low wing with rudder , Have you ever heard of 'Canted Tabs'. Perhaps they would work in your situation. Read all about it here; If you do a Google search, you'll also find a few other entries on 'Canted Tabs'. Happy Christmas, David. On a different note, my original Firestar has a canopy like the FS II in the picture and the top of the fuselage sides (under the wing) are open as well... Thinking I might cut a little wind and noise, I covered the openings with Lexan and went out flying... The coverings cut my airspeed considerably, I removed them and things went back to normal... A buddy flying beside me, said he could see the difference in AOA with and without the coverings... My theory is that the coverings robbed air from the prop... Merry Christmas... I have a note of Friday May 18/ Sat 19th Pat Patrick/All: MV is the weekend between Mother's Day and Memorial Day. Most of us get there on Thurday and stay until Sunday, depending on winds and weather. That would make the 2007 Unplanned/Unorganized Kolb Flyin, Monument Valley, Utah, fall on 17 through 20 May 2007. Lord willing and the creek don't rise, see ya there, john h mkIII ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 10:28:56 AM PST US From: "Rick Pearce" Subject: Kolb-List: Progress I recieved my registration last Sat after 3 months or jacking with paper work & one rejection. Without the rear lexan fairing, the speed goes down, and it loses some rudder authority. Since we have the Lexan tapered, hopefully it enable wind to the prop.
