I'd think a Kolb Firestar would do just fine. But then again he may
also need a pilot. Though he probably already has one as one bumper
sticker read. I don't know if I'd feel real comfortable sitting in a G400
at FL20 with an invisible pilot at the
controls.

Last month Benny Hinn sent letters to followers seeking donations for
a Gulfstream G400 executive jet. Hinn says a personal jet will allow him
to " preach the Gospel around the globe." Hinn asked 6000 previous
donors to each contribute $1000 to cover the $6 million down payment;
the total cost of the plane is over $30 million.
Donors of $1,000 or more get a scale model of Dove One and their names
inscribed inside the plane so he can pray for them on his trips.
Hinn's response: "Long ago I said, 'I will go, Lord. Send me! But I
cannot do it without you, nor can I do all our wonderful Lord has called
me to do without Dove One!"

Sully...
And the really disgusting thing about it is that this phony little
bastard will likely get the money... and some of the 6000 may be able to
afford it, but a helluva lot more of them will not... and they will
suffer daily in significant ways for having scrimped from their meager
savings and sent it to him...
Part of me just shrugs its shoulders and marvels at the seemingly
endless stupidity and naivet=E9 of the common citizen...another part of
me would like to see someone (I would glady help) take this fat
slimeball and "send him" once and for all..(along with all the others of
his ilk) and festoon his entrails all over a large tree somewhere....
and the third part of me is envious -- and wishing I were up there in
Benny's seat in the G-400 enroute to Jamaica, drinking a bottomless 3
olive Beefeater Martini, listening to Mozart, and getting those 1000
mile blow jobs from a tag team of broads who bring their own supply of
clean towels to the event...
As I check out over at work at the end of this month, I am thinking ever
more seriously about just getting the hell away from the the growing
urban mess here in Brandon and all of the low-class bullshit crime that
goes on here in the greater Tampa area...The wife has some land in rural
Crisp county, near Cordele... Mebbe just move on up there and build a
little house out in the middle of a 100 acre field... and really
"retire"... (sit in a cane rocker on the front porch, in my skivvies,
with a bucket of ice, a jug of George Dickel and my 22-250 Model 70, and
fire upon anything which presents itself in my field of view...).
Life grinds on...
Regards,

While your post may not have met all the criteria for the Kolb list, it
did seem to reverberate with my wife. She wanted you to do a little
festooning for her if you would.
Now to get back on subject- I attempted to put a capacitor on the
Firestar to cut down on interference. It was a 4700, about the size of a
"C" battery. Knowing the odds, I probably installed it backwards in
spite of the little arrows. (what Indians?) It did not improve my
ability to use the radio, but it did make the EIS show 350 rpm's at full
throttle.

When I get in a snit, I try to get in the FireFly and fly. If I can't do

snit. If I do, I seem to experience fewer snits.

Beauford T. (and perhaps others);
I, for one, enjoyed your "accidental post" to the extreme.
It made much more sense to me than the requests from
the subject individual (Mr. Hinn) and the reference to the
G-400 got it into the aviation catagory (tho admittedly a
bit 'above' [no pun intended] the Kolb area).
My mother-in-law (God rest her soul) was one of the very
persons about whom you spoke. She put herself so far
in debt, that she was about to loose her home and every-
thing else that she and her deceased husband had worked
for all their lives. The reason was the "700 Club" and the
associated programs that were promoted there. We were
fortunate to have had a family fried tip us off about it before
it actually came to pass. We were able to put a stop to
these vultures prior to her becoming homeless (for which
I am sure they would have gladly sent her a care package).
Your mention of this brought back some very uncomfortable
memories, and I sincerely hope that it ends up getting some
others encouraged to take a closer look at their own families
for the possibility of this type of corruption happening.
Thanks for the reminder. I am glad you posted it.
And, on the chance of offending other members of the list,
I bid you God speed, blue skies, and safe flight,
George Bass

As one who takes a very strong stand on things Christian, let me say -
for the benefit of those on the list who seldom/never frequent the
interior of a Christian church - the antics of neither Benny Hinn nor
Pat Robertson come anywhere close to my concept of "normal
Christianity," at least not the way I understand it, nor as it has ever
been practiced by mainstream Christians. In fact, during Sunday School
class this morning, both of their names came up as role models of "false
prophets."
So, just as it is unfair to curse all ultralighters for the thoughtless
behavior of a moron in a powered parachute that makes all the spam cans
go around because he is doing multiple touch and goes on the primary
active runway, just remember that most Christians (or at least me) are
decent folks who are not trying to con you out of a new G4.
But if you any of you mad men can manage to land one at Indian Springs
airport (3TN0) and tie a big red bow around it with my name on the tag,
I will graciously accept...

I'm in the midst of a major rebuild of my Firefly, and have hit a
snag. In order to repair some cage damage, I need to separate the
cage from the boom tube. After stripping the cage completely, it was
time to pull the large bolt out of the "H frame". However, it doesn't
want to come out. :)
I've been reluctant to use much force, since it's such a structurally
critical part of the plane. Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Well said. But it's not my call, they answer to a higher power than I.
Thankfully.
Years ago I read an excellent illustration by CS Lewis on Christianity, and
he described it as drawing a circle on the ground, a circle that contained
all the historic core beliefs of the faith, and saying, "Within this
circle, you find all sorts of ideas and concepts. But as long as you stay
within the circle, you can still call yourself "Christian." Once you step
outside the circle, then you cannot call yourself "Christian." "
Unfortunately, there are those who spend their lives seeing how close they
can live at the boundaries, without actually crossing the line. That was my
point. Just like some ultralighters who spend their flying careers giving
"ultralights" or "Kolb pilots" a bad name, but never actually getting
arrested. And because of them the world thinks we are all a bunch of
irresponsible jerks. You probably know some of that ilk that show up at your
fly-ins, buzz the crowd, do aerobatics too low, and the masses think "That's
insane!" - as you cringe at their stupid stunts.
As I cringe at Benny Hinn. And Robertson.
And maybe how some on the list cringe at me. And my VG's. And my opinions on
how to prop and run 2 strokes. And so it goes...

Hey Guys,
I'm not quite ready to start this ...but the subject came up on
the "other list" that my plan of using the exaust ( muffler ) to get my cabin
heat....wouldn't work....
My example is the picture below..... not exactly how I'm gonna do it,
but along the same line....
The concern was that I wouldn't get enough heat from my exhaust to make it work....
Seems like 1100 degrees is more than the head temp that others tap
into...
Using a piece of SS or Aluminum around the muffler ( small gap )
I figure that airspeed would make plenty of airflow...
If I needed to , I could make the air go back and forth with baffles , like the
lines at Disney World , before it went to the cockpit....( to gain more heat
)
Looking for other opinions....John ? Richard ? anybody tried this ?
I just don't like the idea of guys saying their heater affects their CHT on climb
out....
Gotta Fly...

On my J-6 I had a heat pickup that was drawing hot air from around the
manifold area, and it was great for cabin heat. But there was only 2.5 feet
from the pickup to the firewall and the heat valve. For a Kolb, because of
the extra distance, you will need to insulate your ductwork to retain the
heat.

I attempted to put a capacitor, 4700, on my 12 volt line between the
regulator and the battery. I had some trouble with my EIS showing the right
RPM's. I had figured that I had wired it up backwards, so I made sure that I
connected it correctly and still had the same problem. Where have I erred?
Max RPM's showed was 350.

It actually works quite well, but it is on a two stroke. I was under the
impression that you were intending to put it on a 4 stroke? I tried
something similar to the set up that you had the picture of. It was on the
muffler on a Mark III. It was worthless in my opinion. Capturing the air out
of the shroud however would allow me to stay quite comfortable in almost all
weather.

Highly debatable at best, unless your bible is very different from mine.

I've been reluctant to use much force, since it's such a structurally
critical part of the plane. Any suggestions?

It should be an "electrolytic" capacitor. There should be a "+" & a "-"
printed on it. It should be connected in parallel to your battery. It should
be
rated at a minimum of 25 volts.
Good luck.......

After I posted to the list about Private Pilots
needing a proficiency check before they could use
their driver's license to fly under the Sport Pilot
regs - someone asked me where in the FARs that was.
I wrote to the FAA inspector who did my E-LSA
inspection. Here is my question and his reply.

Hi Team.
I figured it out........... It sounds like a scam to me, by
far a better idear to give a $1000.00 to your local shelter or food
bank. There are starving families in all cities, charity begines at
home!!!!!!!!!! Buy a Mini-Bus and take the old folks out. I don't know
Mr. Benny Hinn, and I hope I never meet him, he is not a Christian as he
will find out when the Day comes!!!!!!!!!!!! I too have a new attitude
on life and 4(four) new arteries on my heart (quad bypass), I am one
very greatfull happy chappy.
Kind Regards & Fly Safe Noel

You and yours too ,,, so I was thinking - maybe?? Just to cover all
your bases.
Last month Benny Hinn sent letters to followers seeking donations
for a Gulfstream G400 executive jet. Hinn says a personal jet will allow
him to " preach the Gospel around the globe." Hinn asked 6000 previous
donors to each contribute $1000 to cover the $6 million down payment;
the total cost of the plane is over $30 million.
Donors of $1,000 or more get a scale model of Dove One and their
names inscribed inside the plane so he can pray for them on his trips.
Hinn's response: "Long ago I said, 'I will go, Lord. Send me! But I
cannot do it without you, nor can I do all our wonderful Lord has called
me to do without Dove One!"

When parts do not come apart easily, such as aluminum gear legs which
have galvanic corrosion with the steel housings, I use liquid wrench and
let it sit. If there is no flameable stuff near, I will hit the stuck
area with some heat and immediately after add more liquid wrench.
Sometimes, it does not work, but ususally it does.

To get heat to a pilot in a Kolb, I suggest that the main fuselage tube
be plugged because a lot of air comes forward in it because of the
vacuum created by the nose cone shape. If you do not plug it, the cold
air will blow all of the warm air out of the cockpit. In the winter, I
wear a hooded jacket because the cold air hits me in the back of the
neck, otherwise.

I know little of religion, the bible and those who call themselves and
others christians. But, I do know that I have learned a lot from what
Mr. Pike has done with his Kolb and every bit of it has turned out to be
good advice and true. Thank you again Mr. Pike. The Kolb is a very
enjoyable design, thanks to Homer and the little added touches that Mr.
Pike and other Kolbers have discovered. These hints and details are
very much appreciated by those of us who enjoy getting the most out of
our flying machines. This is a good informational site and is and
should be devoted to the art of perfecting the Kolb designs and sharing
our individual experiences in flying these fun machines.
