Hi John, To satisfy the FAA , I got my Tailwheel endorsement... To Satisfy the insurance co , I needed 5 hrs in a "LIKE" aircraft.... A guy had a two place "T-Bird" , I used that....it seemed to help... Mostly for my landings in my new Kolb Firestar....The style was a little different than what I was used to....Not hard , just different I would think a Challenger would be good for transistion too... John, I see you live in Nevada perhaps there are glider schools near you? If you cant find a 2 place Kolb I would recomend a Schwitzer 2-33 , the mos t comman glider trainer I learned to fly in one while I was building my KXP and had no problem transitioning to the Kolb from the 2-33, When I had an engine out later on there was no panic as the KXP flys beautiful with engin e out .Just my 2 cents .Chris Davis=0A=0A=0A----- Original Message ----=0AF rom: John H Murphy <jhm9812@yahoo.com>=0ATo: kolb-list@matronics.com=0ASent : Wednesday, January 10, 2007 10:37:47 PM=0ASubject: Kolb-List: Transition H Murphy" <jhm9812@yahoo.com>=0A=0AThis is forum has a wealth of informati on. I've been going through most of the old posts. Thanks to all that have contributed. My question: I have a Firestar that I yet to fly. Any recommen dations as to a aircraft to get some transition time in prior to flying my Kolb? Ideally it would be a Kolb two seater w. dual controls. I live near L as Vegas, NV/Boulder City, NV, Henderson, NV. The chances of finding someon e with a Kolb that would mind giving me some air time seems remote. I guess my question is what aircraft comes close to the characteristics of the Kol b that is commonly found in the aviation community?=0A=0A=0A=0A=0ARead this topic online here:=0A=0Ahttp://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=8686 =========0A=0A=0A =0A______________________________________ ______________________________________________=0ACheap talk?=0ACheck out Ya

Do like John said- grease it baby, lightly. While you have it out check to see if one cable strand ( very hard to see) is bent back after rethreading at one time or another. It happened to me! Keep your loops large before and after splitter. My cable pull force was high so I greased everything one part at a time to see why. Everything worked great until I threaded the last end where that one strand fetched up! Vic 912 Exrta Maine

May be a ground shield has broken loose. My radio has an automatic noise reduction feature. Check to see if yours is inadvertently turned off. Borrow a different radio and try it to see if it picks up the same noise. If so, you know it is not your radio. Etc. I would think a Challenger would be good for transistion too...>> Hi, for what its worth I changed from a Tail wheel Thruster to a Trcycle wheeled Challenger without any problem . Apart from insufficient tension on the throttle which closed when I took my hand off it to apply the flaps/trim. The control for that was above and behind my right shoulder. This was disconcerting trying to make it back into a small field on my first flight. I did a go-round and managed it easily if not tidily next time round. I always held off as if I was landing a tail dragger and she just sank on.. Changing from the Challenger to the Xtra was a non event. I taxied around a bit to get used to the different `picture` and did a few flights with an instructor and just did it. I think keeping the speed up was rather more important in the Xtra. The Challenger would just mush if the speed was low but the Xtra tends to just let go. If you are coming from normal GA some 2 seat time is only good sense because the difference in inertia takes some getting used to. but from another ultralight, no sweat. Cheers Pat do not archive

    Subject: Red Bull
Hi, has anyone got the pukka gen about Red Bull Air Races being at Monument Valley on `our` weekend? There is nothing on their web site and they have not responded to my e-mail. Anyone? The only lead we have I think is that Lar rang Gouldings and they said `Yes Red Bull are there` Any confirmation anyone? I am putting together a holiday. Roughly at the moment fly to LA, around 4/5th May. Drive or fly to San Diego for a few days (they have moved the Spruce Goose to Oregon). Drive to Palm Springs for a couple of days. Fly to Sant Fe for a while. Drive to Durango area and then to MV for 18th/20th. Drive to Durango. Fly to Denver and then back to UK . These are only the bare bones but if Red Bull are at MV I am tempted to pull the plug on the whole thing and either postpone it for a year or maybe make the Homer Kolb factory fly in later this year. If the races are scheduled anywhere in the vicinity of Gouldings it will clobber airspace and our flying . We had 100000 people turn up to a local venue last year and the pilots were practising every day. I have no wish to be anywhere near a crowd like that or have a NOTAM slapped on the area to keep flyers out. Cheers Pat do not archive

That "IS" a good price.... I paid 300 bucks for the same thing (miZer) I really do like the funtions.....Fuel flow and fuel left.....Although fuel left was a little deciving because I had more in one tank than the other.... I intend to change that some day.... Another thing , the alarm , doesn't "Blink" .....I couldn't hear it until I landed.... Gotta Fly... Mike in MN -------- . . . . . From: "JetPilot" <orcabonita@hotmail.com>
I could try turning the filter on end. I am really wondering if the bubbles are being cuased by a leak in the seam of filter itself, or if its just vapor being drawn out from the gasoline as the fuel pump is above the filter. I have read several cases in the archives about filters running with air in them, but I dont know if they were running 90 % air inside them like mine is. EGT's are good, and the engine has never shown any signs of being lean... If there is a problem, I dont want to wait until the engine quits to figure it out ! Michael A. I've had several people e-mail with the suggestion of doing high speed taxi runs on a long runway. The idea is to get up off the deck a couple of feet and bring her down. After enough practice of these enough high speed runs..take off. Any comments on this? Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=87016#87016
