When I first mentioned this Fly-In possibility, I did not mean for you to take it on. But since you have, what can we bring to help you out? Sodas, beer, fruit or whatever, these Kolbs have hauled groceries before. Tell us what you want and we can add an item beside our names on the roster. -------- John Williamson Arlington, TX Kolbra, 912ULS http://home.tx.rr.com/kolbrapilot Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=119844#119844 ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 07:36:48 PM PST US Subject: Kolb-List: Re: Starhill-Nauga Field Fly Around - July 13th, 14th, 15th From: "John Bickham" John W and all, Don't need to bring anything. I know that doesn't set with some folks (the good ones). If it will make folks feel better, we can put out a donation jar but it really isn't necessary. In Starhill we enjoy and take pride in being good host. Hope everyone finds that to be the case. The one thing that you could do for me as a favor is to give a few of the locals a 15 minute ride. Especially my landlord, who will be cooking Saturday night. Because of laying off for so long and still making sure I put everything back together right, I haven't taken a passenger up yet. If you want to bring snack stuff or fruit for in between meals and at night, bring what you like. Would like you to bring one item though. I would like to establish the shortest landing distance for Nauga Field. A little "freindly competition". If everyone could bring a bean bag marker or sock weighted down, that would be great. I figure everyone will have 6 or so landings by Saturday evening. If you nail a landing that you want to measure, you drop the marker at your tire. Rules and why's (first pass): 1) Distance will be measured from threshold to point where tire stops. Using the tire because those Kolbra's have long snouts and wouldn't want you to be at a disadvantage. A good approach can aim well short of the threshold and that is to your advantage. 2) Markers can be repositioned up until Saturday evening (say 7:00 pm) when all the flying is done for the day. If you get better, you can use your best. 3) The distance will be true ground roll with no brakes (honor system). Put this rule in after seeing the video of John H at the Alvord. Also want to make things even for the guys with smaller wheels and brakes. I land with no brakes and have more than 500 feet to spare with no problem, most of the time. 4) Marker has to be heavy enough to stay put and small enough not to be an obstacle or hazard on the runway. No blowing the marker back 10 feet with your prop wash by "accident". 5) Each contestant must have a clear understanding of the obstacles at the end of the runway. The only one of concern is the powerline at the edge of the road on the NW end. If someone got real aggressive and snuck in between and even with the tops of the trees, it could come into play. I'm talking real aggressive though. Just need to be aware that it is there. 6) Only Kolbs are eligible for first prize. Other makes can participate for bragging rights but I don't think that will be an issue. If you have suggestions or changes, we can make them. The first prize will be an OFFICIAL NAUGA. However, this NAUGA is kinda like the Ryder's Cup or the Stanely Cup. The winner maintains possession until the next sanctioned competition takes place. At that time, it is passed to the new winner. There has been a slight menu change. We were able to trap a wild Bopotamus today. That is what we will be having for supper Satuday night. You'll have to wait to hear the story behind the Starhill Bopotamus and the Nauga when you get here. The Starhill story teller and head BS'er will explain it all as many times as you are willing to hear it. Gary Haley sent an email and said he plans to be there. Paul Petty and Mr Charlie hope to come if they can get the test hours flown off in time. Haven't heard from Steven Green yet. If someone can call him or send me his number directly, I'll call him. There are a few locals that fly in and few others that may to drive in and visit. Any others I don't know about? Hope to see you guys soon. Hope the weather is with us too. -------- Thanks too much, John Bickham Mark III-C "Using my Repairman Certificate" St. Francisville, LA Do Not Archive Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=119945#119945 ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 07:58:29 PM PST US From: "John Hauck" Subject: Re: Kolb-List: Re: Starhill-Nauga Field Fly Around - July 13th, 14th, 15th system). | | John Bickham John B: Need to emphasize braking, optimum braking. Brakes are better and noises are more fimilar to me now. Amazing how much noise transends from the tail wheel to the cabin. My throttle is one touchy SOB! I need to figure out a way to make it more manageable or just get used to it. kept RPM's above 1500 the whole time and she ran much better. First taxi test was fun second was even better as i went farther out on the ramp and the hold short area and watched a citation land and taxi by me. dialed the pitch back to 10 degrees and that seams to be better. DAR may be here saturday to do inspection and first flight may happen this weekend if things go well. I hope the bigger 6" tail wheel comes in tomorrow so i can get it mounted and see an improvement in ground handeling. Stay tuned......... -------- Paul Petty Kolbra #12 Ms Dixie Wating for final inspection and cert.
