Just wanted to let you all know I have completed restoration of the Classic
Kolb Twinstar. It has no engine so you may install your choice. An HKS
would be great I would think. Plenty of time to register it. It has drop
down nose cone for ease of entry and two nice seats with lap/shoulder
harness. Has canister 2nd Chance Chute and easy installation if you want.
It is white and blue. Folds easily. New tires and breaks. Everything is
ready for your engine and registration. I have reg. kit available. Dont
have to tell you about the Kolbs, you know better than I. If you like open
flying, this is the bird for you. New Stits with poly spray and white
wings. Have penty of pics. $6000 OBO. Ted Cowan, Alabama 334-480-0822.
Call or email for pics. This plane, your engine, cheap great flying. Will
consider delivery.

Kolbers and Kolbettes:
Finally got settled in back home enough to comment on the Nauga Field Fly Around.
As a "drive in" participant, I would have to echo John W's words about what a good
time it was.
The Bickhams (John and Sandy .....mostly Sandy) did a great job of taking care
of those who came. Their friends and family who came were equally as gracious.
Sample of pictures attached. (You'll notice that there is no closeup of Bruce
C. He claimed to be in a witness protection program or something like that.)

Morning George:
Thanks for the photos.
We all had a great time flying, lying, eatin', and relaxin', at Nauga
Field, Star Hill, LA.
One of the best I have ever had the opportunity to attend. Now, if
OSH can do the same thing for this old Alabama boy next
week............................ Naw! Never happen.
See ya'll at OSH.
Camping in the UL Camping Area.
Will be flying a little in the UL pattern, and hanging out at the TNK
display in the main area.
Should arrive Sunday or Monday, depending on when I depart home.

Thanks for the kind words George.
Sandy worked pretty hard at the "good host" stuff. I haven't got the bill for
that yet! She is in Utah visiting her USAF baby girl. If I could just get her
to learn how to make a decent praline cheesecake. [Wink]
Nice pictures. If you have anymore, could you e-mail them to me direct? Still
putting all the pictures together for a best of. Sandy has requested them.
She is a "scrapbook" fanatic.
John H
Speaking of flying in the UL pattern. Sandy relayed the story of the Heli-cycle
pilot (J. Little) going on and on about Kolbs stealing the show at SNF and about
one particular pilot in the FLAGSTAR. With you just sitting on the 4 wheeler
with your arms crossed, just listening quietly. Then John W stepping in
with the TA-DAh hand roll intro, pointing you out as that pilot. Sandy found
that very amusing.
I hope to put together a best of collection for the gathering. John H, hands down
you got the "best quote of the weekend". Something to do with cards!
One of the nice things about Nauga Field is that Kolbs are one of the few planes
that can use it. Keeps the heavy iron and the rift raft out! Small is better!
Thanks too much for coming.

Thanks too much,

Subject: | flasher for landing lights |
I'm pretty good with things mechanical but admit to being rather ignorant about
things electrical. So here is a question from the ignorant gallery:
My FS 1 has two little "landing" lights, one each mounted on a gear leg next to
the cabin. There is no strobe light on the airplane. I'd like to become more
obviously visible without the trouble and extra weight of adding a separate strobe
light system. Could I install a flasher of some sort in the landing light
circuit to increase visibility? If so, would it do much good for my intended
purpose and how should it be done?
Any and all thoughts with as much detail as you care to offer will be appreciated.

I assume you have a switch that turns on the landing lights.... change it
for a single pole double throw switch that has 3 positions,,
" on off on" the power comes to the common pole.... if you connect
an inexpensive car type flasher between the other 2 poles, and the light
connects to only one side of the switch....
In the off position nothing is on
In the on position the power is from the center to the side with the light
hooked up direct
In the flash position.. the power is from the center through the flasher to
the light.
If you need me to draw it out let me know

Subject: | video run for Possum |
Hi,
Possum sent me his old video equipment when he updated. He of course
is in the south and they "don't need no stinking enclosure" there so he
wore a helmet with the camera mounted on the top. Here in the North west
it gets a bit nippley in the winter months so I have one on my plane. I
first tried the camera mounted on the side of the plane, too much
vibration. Then I mounted it on the nose cone, side braced it, balanced
my prop, still too much vibration. So I zip tied it to the side of my
headset, since I don't have room enough to put it on top of anything on
my head. I also mounted his "bow sight" on the bill of my cap so that I
could tell what I was taking pictures of. All of my other attempts gave
me a good sight of the ground in front of me, not the big picture. Now
this is better, still far from perfect as you will see from the videos,
but somewhat better. I still get windshield tubes and an occasion heater
hose in the way and since it is mounted on the side, it gives the
appearance of side slipping. I also noticed that I had it a bit cocked
as well as aimed a bit high. This time however there were not any bugs
on the camera lens.
My baud rate is somewhere around 400 but it still would not upload
the whole thing so it is broken into four different segments.
The portion of the Owyhee Canyon that it takes place in is the "wild
and scenic" part above Rome Oregon. There are no roads down in there and
it is a bit tight in some places. The walls are about 400 feet high or
better in some places. It took a bit better than 7 minutes to traverse
the part that I flew. Speed was 60 + rpm's were 5900. I chose a side
canyon to get down to the bottom. I wish there was a landing spot there.
There is a pool that looks very promising. The only problem is that it
is rough enough getting there you would have to take a frying pan with
you. Too much trouble to bring fish out.

Enjoyed the clips.
John W and I flew the canyon last May. Brought back some fond
memories.
Guarantee it will make your heart pump a little faster the further you
get into the canyon. As far as I could tell, you had not gotten up
there to the point the cayon walls become vertical nearly to the top.
At one point, John W was down in the canyon and I was flying high bird
to help keep him clear of "bad" situations. About the time I keyed my
mike to tell him to climb out, he had already started his climb. Up
ahead was a narrow slot canyon with a 90 degree turn to the left, and
more slot canyon ahead of that. A really exciting place to fly.
Beautiful too.

All, Go to McMaster.com page 1121. At the top of the page is a picture of
several different u-joints. The one on the left is what you'd find if you
cut off the protective bellows of that AN unversal joint. They have bellows
for these and for a given size can save you a few bucks over ACS.
