The current maze may be somewhat different. But it is still an ,,,,,,,,,,,,, amazing maize maze. :-) Gene On Aug 20, 2007, at 11:14 PM, WhiskeyVictor36@aol.com wrote: > Gene, > > I see you got a picture of the corn maze, Amazing Maze, at Cherry > Crest Farm I was just there with my grandson the other day while > visiting the Strasburg Railroad and the Rough & Tumble Threshers > Reunion at Kinzer, Pa. > > Bill Varnes > Original Kolb FireStar > Audubon NJ > Do Not Archive > > > www.matronics.com/Navigator?Kolb-List _- > =========================================================== ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 03:53:20 PM PST US From: Dana Hague Subject: Kolb-List: Ultrastar concerns / questions As I near being ready to fly my Ultrastar, two questions for the US experts: 1. When I pick up the wing struts and tip them back and forth, something (sounds like very small particles) rattles back and forth. I'm guessing it's drill chips from the rivet holes, or perhaps pop rivet stems? Should I be concerned? There doesn't seem to be any evidence of corrosion, and the plane has always been stored indoors as far as I'm aware. 2. The manual (which I didn't have at first) says, "Never allow the wing tip to be lowered to the ground without first removing the rear spar attachment pin. Otherwise the inboard wing fittings would be subject to a great deal of strain." I did this once myself, though I immediately realized something was wrong, and may have been done before, too. Is hidden damage likely? What should I check? I will be replacing all the primary hardware throughout the airframe anyway, "just because". I'd sure hate to discover a structural problem at 500'! I'd also appreciate any suggestions on folding/unfolding the wings solo. The previous owner gave me the prop he used, but it's kind of cumbersome. I'm sure I can work something out, but why reinvent the wheel? -Dana do not archive -- -- Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said. ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 05:38:29 PM PST US From: Lanny Fetterman Subject: Kolb-List: Dana, The noise you hear in the wing is probably the rivet heads from the pop rivets, not a concern. When I fold and unfold my FSII, I use a step ladder of the correct height to rest the wing tip on. I hold the wing in place with a bungi cord attached to the step ladder and wrapped around the counter balance on the aileron and back to the step ladder. Then I put the clevis pin in, that holds the wing in position. Once the pin is in, and the wing can`t move aft, I loosen the bungi and attach the strut to the wing, then I lift the wing off the ladder with the strut, and attach the strut to the fuselage.
