Obviously, you're taking some literary license.
On the other hand, it's quite literally where I live.

Hi Mike
I have gotten more than one question about it... laughing. The cone is held in
place by friction alone. Right under the main gear in the pix there is the bathroom
scales. I was weighing the frame and the motor for W&B in different positions.
I was sliding it back and forth to get a rough read on the weights. The
nose cone is not fastened at all, and in fact its now back occupying its dust
outlined space in the hanger. :-)
But you people are giving me an idea for a tilting nose under control as a form
of a canard!!!!!! laughing. that dude is bottom flat enough to in fact provide
lots of control authority, some winglets and some antennas on the sides will
make it look like a cat fish swimming in water.
But that is on the back burner as well, till I finish it.

The only way to fully settle this issue is to have a Kolber and a Challenged get
into their respective aerial chariots, fire them up and climb skyward. Each
one at a different end of a runway. At an agreed up on altitude, and time noted
by a red flare, they both advance their sky chariot's throttle to full power,
and then speed towards each other at the most power that their warring machines
can put out, and smash into the other fellow at full time speed inertia, and
see who is the winner. Its also important that they tell some trusted friends
who will with high resolution video camera record the event and then upload
it onto U-tube. So any arguments that may occur as to who won can be settled
factually by all observers. Now I want to make sure that I ad to allay any possibility
of behind sued over this that I think its not a very good idea, and if
it will be done it should be done in a land outside the United States, by foreign

Well Gerry
The fellow that has his BRS aimed straight ahead at the oncoming challenger may
have an advantage. It needs to be tested though. Maybe a harpoon instead of a
parachute in the canister. Or better yet a big load of buck shots, but that will
have to be done over open water as a miss may wipe out a whole town.

I kept true to the original mount angle. The rear is lifted to about the same hight
angle as the original single tube mount. The thrust line profile angle is
the same. The motor may sit lower but that's because the mount cradles the motor
and its not sitting as high as the factory mount. Which is good, taking the
thrust line lower should reduce the pitch down force when applying power. But
!!!! when fully installed it may sit identical to factory hight since the shock
absorbers are about an inch thick and then the brackets on top of that are
another .5 inches. We shall see.

Subject: | Powder Coatings - after the fact |
My FS II is in need of paint on the boom (where the boom support is located) and
several other areas. Is there any reason I cannot have someone powder coat these
areas? I live in an area with low humidity (Las Vegas, NV) so the reason
is not rust, but cosmetics. Is there any gotchas to worry about?

Subject: | Re: How do you like your FireFly? |
I have a Firefly with a 503. I haven't flown one with a 447, but my airplane always
wants to pitch up and fly left (left wing very heavy). This is because
of the extra weight and torque of the 503. The trim tab on the left aileron is
already full up.
I expected the 503 to climb out at 1500 fpm but it's more like 1000 fpm from my
home field (2500 msl).
If I were to buy or build another Firefly, I would definitely use the 447. I think
the only thing I would miss on the 503 is the oil injection.
To be 103 legal in the Firefly, you are limited to 2-bladed wood prop, small wheels,
no brakes, no or limited gages, 1 coat of paint, short windscreen.
I have the short windscreen. It is very wind. I actually think it would be better
to take it off completely. The short windshield seems to put all the turbulent
air right at head.
Mine has the gap seal removed (between wings). I am 6-01 and if it were there,
I think my head wouldn't fit in the airplane.
Mine performs very well in turbulence and handles winds well. Ailerons are heavy
in cruise, but fine during approach.

Hi John
I have a Firestar II that I recovered the fuselage because the fabric had allot
of wear and tear. I opted to powder coat the cage as I wanted a more durable
finish to work with.
The powder coating process works best on steel parts. Because of the temperatures
involved I would not coat aluminum parts especially tempered or hardened bits.
If you decide to powder coat the cage you will need to remove the boom tube.
The only problem I had was that the cage had relaxed a bit causing an out of trim
condition in the wings. I used the English wing u-joints to correct the wing
trim problem.
Otherwise I quite happy about the finish of the powder coating and its durability.
