Ellery, did you build the MukTuks yourself? What was the building like and
how well do they work? Not in my budget this year but for future reference...

Thanks Carlos, that's the kind of information I needed. Everything else
I've heard was of the "I knew a guy who heard from a guy who..." nature. I
think I will go with my original plan of premix, and a calibrated third
tank so I can accurately determine how much fuel I'm pumping.

Dana:
I am glad you made that decision.
Back in the 80's, I was very fortunate to be able to do a lot of long
distance cross country flying in my 447 powered Fire Star. I never
considered any other method but pre-mix or mix in the tank. That's all that
was available.
Each extended trip started out with 3 gals of Pennzoil in 1 quart
containers, along with my camping gear and personal gear. Doesn't take long
to become very good at estimating fuel burn when flying cross country, using
the hour meter and a fuel burn of 3.5 to 3.75 gph. I dumped the oil in the
tank first, grabbed a lift strut to roll the FS back and forth to mix the
oil and gas, then filled the tank. Never had a fuel/oil mix ratio problem
that I could determine in many hours of cross country flying.
At home it was a no brainer because I fueled out of 5 gal cans.
With this method of fueling and mixing oil I was able to fly in all the
States east of the Mississippi and some west of the Mississippi River. We
also got into Canada far enough to say we had flown over Canadian soil, but
never attempted to land there.

BAD news....The strawberry

The GOOD news is that on Saturday a group of UL goons, including George,

north of Plant City for
a fly-in... The weather guesser predicts it will be 74F here on Saturday...

That would be the "22/18" part, in celsius. Which means; "22 degree/dewpoint
18 degrees" or even simpler still; 72degrees F, dewpoint 64 degrees.
And this is known as "bragging".

Cool trip.
Just some Trivia along that routes vicinity.
West of Fort Worth Texas in Mineral Wells, my Dad spent 3 years as a German Prisoner
of War during WW2.
He was captured in Tunisia in a Radio Relay station built into the cliffs by the
shore of the Mediterranean by the advancing American forces as they were chasing
Rommel and his rat pack.
He and his squad where playing cards in a cave in the cliff when they heard the
clicks of guns being cocked behind them......guess the Americans did not bother
to knock.... [Laughing]

The field to the right of the High School is were the compound used to be.
Visited the site in 1980 and all that was left is some rubble where the guard towers
used to be and a small cemetery where some German Prisoners were buried.
Some died as a result of accidents since they actually had to work clearing fields,
felling trees etc.....not like inmates now who who get to sit on their butts
and watch TV.

Sure it wasn't a few miles east of Mineral Wells on Fort Wolters, Texas?
More trivia.
Sep 1968, I solo'd a Hughes TH-55 helicopter south of Fort Wolters at a
stage field I can no longer remember the name. My buddy, John W, was a
month behind me in Primary Helicopter Training at Fort Wolters. If we make
it until next Fall, it will be a quick 40 years ago. Times a flyin'.
