Steve
Apparently the stats have the ins. boys scared. Liability rates are
nearly twice the landplane ones. They also lump flying boats with
floatplanes, tho the boats are MUCH safer. Pilots seem to bash up
seaplanes; a hard landing breaks the crossover strut & the float
goes up against the wing. Not good!
Fly safe, have fun
I personally think floats are easier than wheels.

I see you found GOD's country. I use to live in Mo., over by Joplin until I
coun't afford to farm any more. I had 5 airstrip on 1800 ac, from 1000' to
3/4's of a mi. long, all on grass. In the 70's & 80's there was several of
us that flew UL's and GA and would hold a week end fly-in once a month. Th
ere are some of the best people you will ever meet living in Mo.
I have a Mark3/912 also and wanted information on floats. I talked to the f
actory and they was of no help or interested in helping. I did see a Mark 3
on e-bay with floats by a dealer in Mich. The plane looked good and they h
ad done a great job mounting them. I found a pair of almost new floats with
retractable wheels for $2500 when I was going to put a set on mine. The re
g's at that time said you could not have retractable gear on a ELSA so I di
dn't get them. Now the reg's have changed and the floats are gone.
If you have a clear path to the ramp I don't see any problem hauling with t
he wings in place or a trailer with a removable up right brace and saddle t
o set the wings for that short of a trip.
