Kolb group, Good morning. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried using one of those inexpensive "powdercoat at home" things? I have seen them advertized for about $50, and then you buy the powder color you want. Thank you for your help. Dudley Building a MkIII Looking for last minute shopping deals?

Nope, don't want to use the wife's house oven, again. Did that with some fiberglass parts I was trying to cure in a hurry. (non-flying stuff parts...halloween mask, caught on fire, bad idea, anyway, forget the house oven idea.) Too much smoke!! (the halloween mask came out kind of scary, with all the burn marks!!) But, I HAVE heard using a propane grill can work very well. Yes, it WILL get to 400 degrees. And, according to what I heard, the propane's heat is very good on the powder-paint. Just suspend the pieces, crank it to high, watch the temp gauge and the timer. Of course, a guy could pick up a cheapo electric oven at a surplus yard. It doesn't have to look very good, just heat fairly accurately. I guess the main question I had is if anyone owns one of these low budget powdercoat kits, or, as usual, they're just crap, and you get what you pay for, like always. Justa guess Mike---but if you take a lot of little parts to a coater and tell him any color but pink; then he might give you a break as he could include them in with bigger , better paying jobs ? I powder coated my cage, later I discovered the wonderful world of epoxy two part paints. If I were to do it again the two part epoxy primer would be my choice. That is one tough coating, like glue and paint in one. Very resistant to everything and strong. This is horrible but I can't remember the Manufacturer. I can see it in my mind's eye exactly where the cans sit on my work table 1200 miles away from here, but can't remember the name. However a few years ago we spoke about powder coating and I did name the epoxy. Somewhere in the library there is a mention of that manufacturer. I can say this, if you leave the crap in one of those little clear plastic cups it will melt it. Its some strong stuff and you ought to use a respirator, I do. Fellow Kolber Mike, It has been my experience that just because your kids and cats moved out, it does NOT mean they won't return. But that is another matter..... With regard to some PolySpray, specifically how many ounces...4? I happen to have a new gallon from J & D Miller, and I believe I could spare some. Send me your address, and I'll mail you a jar. I won't hold it against you because you're in Missouri. Mike Welch Do not archive > > I'm in need of a bit more than a baby food jar of Poly Spray. Looks good... how did you mount the camera to avoid the vibration? Even my non-flying wife liked your video. Vimeo is another video sharing site that lets you upload high definition (1280x720) video. -Dana -- "Next year in Galt's Gulch!"
