I have chatted with Mr Kolb about my plane and he is ok with the 503. Jim Jim, The nicest Ultrastar I ever saw was 503 powerd and had beefed up landing gear and I'm sure other mods. I saw it years ago at a fly in in Eastern Ohio, it was built and owned by a fellow named Tom Tchantz (spelling?) and I think he won a major award at Oshkosh that same summer. He later sold it and I always wonder if its still around. It was a true work of art and every Ultrastar owner shoul get a chance to look it over for ideas. Should be some nice layouts of it in old EAA rags. However, after the first glass cylinder cracked the first night it was on the US, allowing all the fuel to leak out of the bottom tank, I replaced the glass cylinder with a piece of .058 aluminum tubing of the appropriate size. I like this filter because I can change elements in the field, easy to carry spares, or as a last resort, clean a dirty element well enough to get me to a place where I can obtain some new ones. john h mkIII ________________________________ Message 8 _____________________________________ Time: 04:30:02 AM PST US Subject: Kolb-List: Re: Correction From: "icrashrc" At Homers current working pace soon there'll be no secret to keep! -------- Scott www.ill-EagleAviation.com do not archive Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=178406#178406 ________________________________ Message 9 _____________________________________ Time: 05:57:03 AM PST US From: "Robert Laird" Subject: Re: Kolb-List: Re: Monument Valley 2008 Photo Contest Yeow! To meet the inspection requirerments for the AP the factory moun t set up was installed along with several other things. The plane flys okey but not like it use to. They had shimed the engine to change the thrust li ne which gave it a better rate of climb and great on short field take offs and landings. As a rule I take photos before and after ( age has made menor y shorter) but didn't this time as I was pressed for time to get it inspect ed for LSA. > Date: Tue, 15 Apr 2008 14:26:30 -0700> From: firestar503@yaho o.com> Subject: Kolb-List: Kolb wanted> To: kolb-list@matronics.com> > --> Kolb-List message posted by: Jon LaVasseur > > Hello from Minnesota.> > I am trying to help a friend find a good used> Kolb Fir estarII or MK3. That gyro-copter did some incredible tight turns over the runway, especially the landing... The shot down of the runway between your feet was nest, I would like to see more out of the gyro-copter, and maybe a couple pictures of it, I did not realize how small it was until I saw your feet. I had to fly back with him all the way to Wells Nev. At that spot I got lucky and he convinced Arty that going north through Idaho was a better route. I hated to see Arty go, but it was a relief to not have to deal with him any more. I made it home in four hours, while it took them two days to get home.
