Ellery and I won't make it sorry to miss my first.
Ellery is game I'm not. It's all about work and money.
We did do a most excellent 200 mile test flight.

Hi All,
Well just got off the phone with Falcon regarding my request for insurance on My
Kolb Firestar II.
They said until I have 200hrs total time and 25hrs tailwheel that no one would
write a policy.
I have about 100 hrs of Logged time in various spam cans and registered ultrallights
and about the same amount of un- official time in my Firestar ( Pre-registration
).
So what is a person to do besides run around "Naked in the Sky" until he builds
enough time.
Only time will tell... :-(

Try USUA, I don't think their insurance program (through First Flight) has
such drastic limitations.

Carlos,
The easy solution to your problem and perhaps cheaper is to join the
USUA and purchase your insurance through the insurance company
affiliated with them, First Flight Insurance
www.firstflightinsurance.com.

Be prepared to be disappointed tho. There are only a couple of actual underwriters
out there of aircraft insurance policies and it's likely you'll just get turned
down by the same people going through USUA.
Give it a shot, but I BTDT getting insurance for my titan. Basically, you don't
have a lot of choices, you're stuck with only one or two.
Flying w/o insurance is perfectly legal tho - last I checked, FnAA makes the rules
for aviation, not insurance companies.
I say fly without it until you get the hours - trailer it to someplace that doesn't
require insurance if you have to....

naked in the sky? now there's a novel concept. Sure glad I had my
pants along for the ride when
I ditched in the alfalfa two weeks ago. Made recruiting help a lot
easier.
Nettles would have been bad too.
I did fly it back but the windy weather has kept me ground bound
since then. This morning,
all patched up, super preflight, gas still left over from the
abbreviated flight, off I went.
Beautiful day. Like with all modifications that give you that
additional 5-10 mph, my radiator
fairing seems to be functional. In addition the coolant recovery
tank is still accessible.
Prop repitched so I can get better than 5000 rpm on takeoff.
Naked? (insurance that is) yup, I rarely carry a passenger, if I hit
a house my worries are over.
Only go into obscure strips and neighbor's.
Hope somebody feeds the dog.

Russ, everything I've insured with them was N-numbered and
experimental, not ELSA, although they do those to. And...hours
required? Only your pencil knows how many hours you've flown,
maybe more, maybe less. Many, including me forget to log our hours
on occasion. I've heard some say they flew their 40 hours off in one
day, but I'm sure they were joking.

I'm not sure the first email went thru. I apologize if this is a repeat.
I need to move my Mark III Classic from NC to Ohio and plan to rent an

Can anyone tell me if i need a 24 foot or a 26 foot truck?

Jim,
Having had to rescue my MarkIIIC from Texas in 2004. Go with the 26'. I used
a 24' foot. It fit but ended up with extra nose rash. Hardware and fittings on
the door cut into that 24' if I remember right.
Also difficult to tie-down to prevent load shifting even a little bit. Suggest
frequent stops in the first few hours to check that. Not good to get all the
way home and find damage because bumpy roads shifted things around.
Bigger will be better.

The airport where I keep my plane requires insurance for all aircraft based
there. I feel better having it anyway... not for in flight, but I'd hate
to be caught by a gust of wind when taxiing and ding somebody else's
$250,000 airplane...

I was looking at another local pilot's Firestar II the other day, and saw
that his elevator linkage is a much nicer design than my UltraStar, as it
doesn't require any disconnection to fold it. Has anybody made or heard of
this kind of a modification to an UltraStar?
