FWIW I would definitely put the standard plug back in, until you're
SURE you've fixed the leak.
I lost a Lycoming 0-360 due to a quick-drain that leaked oil in
flight -- but none of us could make it leak on the ground.
Good luck.

Subject: | Re: I soloed Saturday! |
Thanks everyone.
Yep I am a little younger than some of you I guess. I am 27. I soloed a C 150
when I was 17. I didn't finish the Private pilot training due to my instructor
leaving and getting one I didn't like. I guess it made me lose interest in flying.
Plus I had a few scary moments flying the 150 solo.
I never lose 100% interest in flying. I always liked the ultralights but my parents
had the typical "those things are dangerous" attitude and wouldn't approve
of me getting a ultralight . Anyway when I moved out and got married I got
the itch real bad last summer to take a ride in a ultralight and see if it would
be something I might want to peruse. I went up with Danny for a 2hr flight
and loved it. BTW my parents like my plane now. I guess the news really does
make our aircraft appear to be death traps. So it took me 10 years to get back
into flying.
Better late than never! I am much more mature and focused at 27 than I was at 17
[Rolling Eyes] so it is probably for the better.

Just some boring Tuesday morning trivia for "y'all"!
I flew for 1.2 hours according to the Hobbs meter going there and back (between
Waycross and Alma).
My PPL checkride is coming up next week. It'll be in the Cessna 150. Any advice/memories?

Hi Cristal,
Trivia is great. Good on your flying! Just relax, the examiner
wants you to do well. If you catch a mistake, repent and ask for a do-over.
Most will allow it - once.
I'd get tanked - a little - the night before. Always helped with the
nerves, but that's just me.
Anymore, the checkrides aren't a bother. I find other reasons to
get tanked tho.
Have fun, good luck!!

Steven,
Sometimes people think their Quick Drain plug is leaking when it
isn't. What happens is that a little oil remains in the exit tube
and "drains" out, making one think the QD is leaking. A little oil
can seem like a lot. My solution is to swab the exit with a couple
of que tips, curing my "leak." Yours may indeed be a leak, but you
might check to see if it is simply oil left in the exit.

Hey, Steve Boetto -
I just received my copy of EAA's "Light Sport" magazine, with your
Firefly floatplane on the cover.
Great article about your Kolb, and great pictures, too.
I especially liked the photo of you flying it barefoot, hanging ten
(toes) over the tops of the rudder pedals!
Congratulations to you and Bryan M!

Thanks Dennis, I don't think that I have ever flown it with shoes on.

Subject: | Oil Quick Drain Valve |
Jerry,
I experienced that after the first use of the valve. I roll the corner of a
paper towel to soak the oil out. I am about to give up on getting the right
"seal kit" from Aircraft Spruce......5 phone calls, 1 wrong order delivered,
2 e-mails over about 90 cents worth of o-rings. The plug is going to
replace the quick-drain for now anyway.

The Warwick, NY airport is across a small lake from a prison. I few my PPG
there a couple of times. The first time, a cop showed up as I was packing
up. Seems several people had called and reported... well, I'm not sure
what they reported, but it was obvious they had never seen a PPG
before. He said it was OK to fly there, but he wanted to make sure I
wasn't flying over the prison (I wasn't).

I might have some of "y'all" fooled since I'm originally from Illinois.
But I can't win...I go back home and they tease me for the southern accent I've
picked up on and yet around here I still get teased for my northern accent...
