Lowering the nose also lowers the capability of taking off and landing shorter and quicker in a nice 3 point position. john h - Who enjoys flying the SS, but has not flown one in a while. mkIII ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 11:55:35 AM PST US Subject: Kolb-List: Re: Fay Fay Go Away so I can fly another day From: "cristalclear13" Floats might help with the flooding and rain, but how does a Kolb fly in 30mph winds? What kind of airplane did you train in ? Im guessing it wasnt the Kolb since most instructors and examiners would have never flown something like a Kolb. Wait out those winds, it would be a shame to ding your Kolb by pushing the limits to early. Thats really neat that your son was your first passenger, how did he like the Kolb ? Is he asking for lessons yet ? Here is the story in the link so that anyone who missed it today can still see it. " Cristal Waters Earns Pilot License Cristal Waters, wife of local pastor, the Rev. J. Terrance Waters, of Victory Drive Church of God on Russell Road in Waycross, earned her private pilot certificate?after passing her checkride on?Aug. 5. Waters works full time as a computer?programmer-analyst for Citigroup in Jacksonville. She studied?the Gleim home study course?and passed her written test with a 98 percent. Her son, Johnathan Waters, a sophomore at Ware Magnet, was her first passenger on Aug. 9. " Mike -------- "NO FEAR" - If you have no fear you did not go as fast as you could have !!! A quick run in one direction, and then on the opposite direction at the same indicated airspeed will tell you if there is any wind. If there is wind, your GPS reading will not be the same on both runs... If there is some wind, you can still find your exact speed by flying exactly into the wind, then exactly downwind. Half the difference in the GPS speed readings will be your windspeed. Then you simply compare GPS speed to your airspeed to see how far off it is. I was just joking about flying in 30 mph winds...I'm a "perfect weather" flyer. My son really enjoyed the flight. How brave he was to be my first passenger! He was ready to go again right away. The accident happened around 1:50 PM, according to Richland Police Captain Mike Cobb. Witnesses told police the plane took off on the Richland Airport runway, made a hard right bank and simply fell out of the sky. Witnesses sa id it looked like the pilot was trying to circle back around. Investigators are looking into the possibility of whether 72-year-old Chuck Bigelow had a medical condition that caused the accident, or if the experimental one-seater fell apart midair. Witnesses say the engine may have been sputtering before the plane came crashing down from about 250 feet. "I was very distressed to hear it," said Bigelow's friend Robert Ver Steeg. "It give aviation a black eye." Crews finished picking up the pieces at the Richland airport Thursday afternoon. The coroner is conducting an autopsy. Friends of Bigelow at the scene said he was an avid aviator and auto racer .. Richland Police said 72 -year-old Charles Bigelow of Richland was dead at the scene. Authorities said Bigelow's Ultralight experimental one seater came down hea d first near the runway. Bigelow was the only one on board. Witnesses told police that it appeared that the engine's RPMs were going up and down before the crash. Longtime friend Robert VerSteeg said Bigelow loved all kinds of fast paced outdoor activities. VerSteeg was sad to hear the news of his death. He said, "I miss him already ... a lot of people liked him and he'll be missed. We feel for th e family." Police Captain Mike Cobb said, "Anytime something like this happens when someone was essentially enjoying themselves is very, very sad." Police said there was no fire when the plane crashed. Bigelow raced his way into the Guinness Book of World Records in a car that was made in West Richland September 2007. He was the driver of a car that reached speeds of more than 256 miles per hour. With Bigelow behind the wheel the Ultimate Aero Twin Turbo set a new record . Bigelow was even interviewed live on KNDU after the record was set. do not archive jswan firestar ll N663S Michigan **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Upon landing it seems like it is going to die when I close the throttle. I would be afraid to close the throttle while flying for fear it would die. Any ideas on what is up?
