Let's start with the basics. Is your aircraft an Experimental Light Sport Aircraft (ELSA) or an Experimental Amateur Built Aircraft (EAB)? Do you have an experimental certificate for the airplane (pink piece of paper) and registration (known as the "hard card")? If you have an "N" number you should have the latter. If any of the other paper work is in doubt and If your aircraft is an ELSA, the hard card is the most important piece of paper to have and it must have been issued before 2-1-08. The reason for this is that the FAA granted an extension to the time limit for completing the registration process for an ELSA, provided the aircraft was registered before 2-1-08. If you have the registration all the other paperwork can be straightened out, if you don't there is still an option open to you, but it is extremely limiting to your flying. We were here all day Monday working as usual. Monday was a regular work day for us. I would say we were outside taking down signs or we could have been on the phone when Bill tried to call. Below is my email address that I check often. travis@tnkolbaircraft.com We would like to thank everyone that attended our Homecoming this year.I was very pleased to see all you guys. Thank you so much for all the support and the friendship. Sorry to hear about your unintentional donation. The Kolb guys are really good folks to deal with. With the Kolb Homecoming and other stuff they may have needed a short break before getting back to work. How many hours have you put on your bird since you've got it? Us busy-bodies would like to know :-) Best Regards Carlos Grageda ----- Original Message ----- From: Bill Eslick To: kolb-list@matronics.com Sent: Tuesday, September 23, 2008 2:09 PM Subject: Kolb-List: FS II Aileron balance weight Can anybody tell me where I can get a replacement weight for my Firestar II aileron? I am not having much luck with the "new" Kolb factory. No answer. Seem to have donated this one to the countryside this morning. Didn't mean to sound disrespectful to your company, Travis! Didn't think about the fly-in, as I am so far away. Found a replacement locally for $1.00, so I am back in business. Bill E. I've got the airworthiness card (pink) and am in the process of getting the registration transferred into my name. I just don't have operating limitations and need to do a new weight and balance. Don't think there has ever been a operators handbood and operating limitations published by old or new Kolb. I have never encountered any through 1991, when I built my third and last Kolb. Don't recall seeing any publication that looked official with Kolb operating limitations. john h mkIII - 2,869.1 hours 912ULS - 300.6 hours ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 01:10:51 PM PST US Subject: Kolb-List: Re: harvested peanut field for a landing strip? From: "jb92563" I fly from a dirt strip, not with a Kolb however. The plane will get dirty and you best not have any grease or other sticky substance on your hinges, rod ends, pulleys or other moving parts(Tail wheel) as the sand/dust will stick in it and wear your parts due to vibration, control actuation etc. Just use a dry lubricant such as graphite or silicone. If its an UltraStar your prop is going to get chewed up as well so Leading Edge tape would be useful. I don't think your tail surfaces will suffer except for getting dirty, so a good dusting of the tail after flying would be a good idea. Make sure the the surfaces are dry if you are taking an early morning "dew" flight otherwise you will have a mess to clean up off your tail when the dirt mixes with the dew and "adheres" to you tail. -------- Ray Kolb UltraStar (Cuyuna UL-202) Moni MotorGlider Schreder HP-11 Glider Grob 109 Motorglider Do Not Archive Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p 6166#206166 ________________________________ Message 8 _____________________________________ Time: 01:29:03 PM PST US Subject: Kolb-List: Re: passengers/ law suits? From: "jb92563" You must have insurance if you fly passengers otherwise your are risking all for THEIR amusement. Those waivers do not hold up in court as the state a federal laws prevail regardless of anything you had them sign. The only thing they are good for is to try and convince them not to go flying with you and as proof that you made them aware of risk(Maybe they get 2mil instead of 4 mil). Insurance companies can and will recover their losses any way they can regardless of the policy holders wishes. Its nice to share your fun with your friends but when the chips are down people do whatever they have to in order for their own families survival in which case all bets on how "nice" they are/were are off! Bottom line is that YOU need insurance to fly them as doing otherwise is merely tempting fate. Hate to sound so negative about it but that is the cold hard reality. (Mileage of the above varies by each state having its own rules) -------- Ray Kolb UltraStar (Cuyuna UL-202) Moni MotorGlider Schreder HP-11 Glider Grob 109 Motorglider Do Not Archive Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p 6169#206169 ________________________________ Message 9 _____________________________________ Time: 04:17:24 PM PST US From: "John Hauck" Subject: Kolb-List: Kolb History HiGang: Got a snap shot of me and John Williamson flying formation during one of the early Kolb Homecomings.
