Anybody interested in my Ultrastar? I have another Kolb I would like to buy if someone is interested in my Ultrastar. I have the cuyuna UL202 rebuilt but not installed, Exhaust coated, ready to put on and break in and fly. It also has a in date BRS, pod and windshield. No N number, always flown as an ultralite. I am looking for 5500 with the BRS and 4500 without. If interested call or email. do not archive Dan Walter Palmyra, Pa. When it works, it is pretty cool. The "Check In" message is reliable. Have not needed the 911 message (hope I never do either). I am not 100% satisfied with the operation, but I still don't fly without it. I was in Guatemala a week ago and had it with me and it looked to be working but did not send any messages. :( So much for that. I bought a RAM mount for the unit and am going to try to mount it up on the greenhouse roof of my plane and see what happens later today. I have had it on the dash of my Cessna and it works well there. I have the following emergency message set up: "This is an aircraft. Either a Blue/White Twin Engine Cessna or a Red/White small single engine aircraft. Cindy will know which one- 701-388-0019, 701-241-7637 or 701-293-2088" Flight Service # 800 992-7433" I never file a flight plan when I go our fun flying because I never know where I will be going anyway. I figure if I go down and survive, I can push the 911 button to summon help. If I don't survive, I figure the Cindy will check the SPOT website to narrow down the search to a 10 minute flying area. Sorry to say I have never weighed it, The original instructions tell you how to do the weight and balance by hanging it, It worked well. It meets all the other requirements and I have no problem flying it as an Ultralight. I listed it with a gross weight of 650lb. Both of mine have what I call the ducktail fuselage cage, that being there is a weldment that extends aft of the uprights that connect the boom to the rear spar. Ralph's Firestar doesn't have it yet by his accounting and what history I know of mine his seems to be the older of the two. It seems unlikely that an early Firestar and an early Mk III would both have this if it were some type of owner created modification. Anybody out there know the history of this? Was it an option for builders who wanted to enclose their fuselage or was it a feature that was dropped from production at some point? Thanks for any info, Rick do not archive ________________________________ Message 8 _____________________________________ Time: 06:27:19 PM PST US Subject: Kolb-List: Today's HKS report From: Richard Girard Had the big wing on the trike to give rides. Normally I fly this wing at less than 4700 RPM because it just won't go much faster if you pour more coals to it, however I was barely able to make it home by dark so I flew it at 5250 for the trip home. Non Kolb info: it took both arms crossed over the control bar to hold altitude, the air was dead smooth so I was able to do this. The point is that pushing all that drag through the air loaded up the engine more than I ever do. Here are the readings: OAT 70 Oil 165 CHT 285L / 300R EGT 1146L / 1150R No fuel burn info as it was at the end of 2.5 hours of flying of which the first 2 hours were at my normal operating parameters for this wing.
