Always harder to when "one of the good guys" is no longer among us. Had the great pleasure of meeting Home and Clara a couple of times. Prayers are with Ms Clara and family for the pain they are in. Homer don't really need them. Picture below is Homer graciously autographing my plane at the 2007 TNK Homecoming. At first he was reluctant, didn't want to "ruin your pretty plane" as he put it. Treasure that. We climb in our "proven" designs and derive great pleasure from them. It is with deep respect, great admiration and gratitude when I think of Homer designing and doing the actual proving in the early days. True aviator and a great person. -------- Thanks too much, John Bickham Mark III-C w/ 912UL St. Francisville, LA I know many pilots and a few true aviators. There is a distinct difference that I have the greatest respect for. No propeller spacer is required. By doing this I can rotate the reducer to move the propeller up and the left to keep the FireFly from slipping at cruise. Also it puts the pumper carburetor on the left side so that I can flip it over which points the low and high speed adjustment screw toward the front. Herb > Herb, To move the cg forward a little, I will cut the propeller to 60 inches, remove the thick washer that goes between the IVO propeller blades and the spacer and mount the muffler as far forward as I can. I used bulkhead vibration isolators in conjunction with the standard FireFly engine mounting plate isolators. If I have to, I can discard these isolators and move the whole works forward another 1.25 inches forward. >From weighing the fuselage with tail surfaces before and after, I found the ratio of the tail wheel weight to total weight to be 0.235 before and 0.253 after. I may have to move the battery to the nose and/or put a cushion behind my lower back to move the cg further forward. When the wings are remounted I will be able to see how the total cg compares with what it was with the 447 and Victor 1+. Jack B. Hart FF004 Winchester, IN

Most of the world will look at my life as of little consequence. While I have never met the man, he has and will continue to effect my life. To me that is a notable accomplishment for which I have some envy and admiration. I flew my Kolb on Sunday with a friend in his Kolb as well. We landed at sunset, I didn't think about it then but I guess it was fitting. -------- Dale Whelan 503 powered Firestar II Projection, A simple and interesting Psychological concept Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=252820#252820

Flew over to Selby's, a local ultralight strip on a horse farm, this morning in the trike and met a fellow who has a Moto Guzzi engine on a Pinnochio (Bleriot look alike if you stand back a few feet. He has a Moto Guzzi engine mated to a Rotax E box. The project has been stalled because he can't get the engine to run at idle and off idle with the prop on it. Runs fine without the prop, runs fine above 4000 RPM. Anyone tried this engine on a Kolb, or anything else for that matter. Steve tells me they're popular in Europe, but they use a different gearbox. Great sadness to hear about Homer's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Now more than ever I'm grateful that I had the chance to attend the fly-in at Homer's farm last year and meet him for the first time and spend some time with him. He was one of a kind. -Dana

While I never had a long conversation with Homer I listened to him talk to other pilots and customers since OSH in the mid eighties. While in the pattern at Lakeland a few years ago I was taxiing by the crown and saw Homer. Without hesitation he gave a me a thumbs up. I figured he noticed my infamous uncovered cage and he liked the way it turned out. That made the entire trip worthwhile. Thank you, Homer for countless flying memories! I can only think of good things when I think of Homer. Every time I was around him he made you feel like family. After all his accomplishments I never saw a hint of arrogance . He has touched all of our lives. My wife and I had a very nice visit with Homer and Clara by the fence on the UL runway at Oshkosh last year. Had no Idea it would be my last time to see him. How saddened I am!! Our prayers are with Clara and the family. Ed Diebel In a message dated 7/12/2009 10:55:14 A.M. -- kugelair.com ============ From: "Ron @ KFHU" <captainron1@cox.net> Subject: Spark Plugs Condition I am attaching a couple of pics of the plugs. They have some specs of carbon on them I think. can experienced 2 cycle drivers tell me what they think. I am not sure if its running too rich or too much oil, I am at about 38/1 on the oil mix because I calculated 124 fluid ounces per gallon as opposed to 128 oz per gallon. So I am a bit rich on the oil side, not by much though and I am using none synthetic as I had some bottles of it I want to use up. The motor is running fine, just finished a 1.5 hr mission without any negative events.============
