I'm flying the Kolbra in and parking on the west side of the ultralight runway.
Most of the Kolbs are parked over there.

I "snuck" a picture of John's rudder pedals when he flew into Douglas this year.
It is attached.

Thanks, Cristal.
I had forgotten exactly how I had done it.
Had to offset one side to make them neutral.

I'll second that opinion!
I, too, had a throttle cable failure on my 912, and am REALLY glad it
went to wide open so I could return to my airport (under full throttle)
and make a safe landing. I switched off the engine once I was in the
pattern, and made an uneventful dead-stick landing.
Incidentally, my failure was not the cable, but rather the ferrule at
the end of my throttle cable slipped off. Thanks to Richard Pike's
recommendation to fray the cable strands that stick out beyond the
ferrule and solder them into a solid clump, I am not concerned that this
will ever happen to me again!

Hi,
I got my carb off the plane and on my workbench today.
.It is very simple to change the carb so the butterfly will go to full
open if the cable breaks.
1. flip the wheel that works the throttle shaft , reinstall.
2. fabricate a steel strap aprox 2 3/4in long, drill 4 holes , 2 are
to mount it , one is so the fitting that attaches the throttle cable
housing to the carb lines up with the wheel also this hole gives you
a place to mount the fitting.
and one hole is for the return spring.
3. You are done, total time 1.5 hrs. Should be a lot safer.
My cable failure was caused by water getting into the housing [when
I washed the plane?] The failure was in the middle of the cable , in a
bend that let water stand and the cable corrode.
I thought it was made of stainless but I guess not.
Diffrerent subject, can anyone tell me the best way to clean the
conical K&N air filters that came on the HKS?

I have been thinking about the Rotax 912 set up with the spring pulling
the throttle to full if the cable brakes. The system bothers me.......
but seems just a bit better than going to idle. Just a thought, why not
build a redundant cable/throttle system so if one cable brakes you still
have throttle control. Some people have added a second throttle for the
copilot. Some have even put in a second throttle to avoid the Kolb
throttle hand over the stomach. If you can get to both throttles aren't
you much better than going to full throttle? Just check both
cables/systems before each flight. It can't be that much more than
reworking the throttle system for pull the throttle closed. Also be
careful when installing a second system that it doesn't bind and cause
the primary throttle any problems.
Again worth what you paid for it.

I didn't like the rather unsecure position of the camera bungeed to the
door. I did like being able to reach out and turn it on or off, but what
the heck, I generally don't fly more than 1.5 hours at a time anyway.
Besides then I can show the whole trip to the wife, if she is
interested.
So I made an aluminum tab to go behind my Pito tube. I have one of those
that has a nut to tighten it to the plane. I then took some dense foam
and cut a pocket in it to hold the camera, and went flying. Well it was
better, but it was a bit wavy, so I made a new one of 1/8th alum bar and
put that one on.
Then out the camera on a thin strip of foam and secured it with a rubber
band. That made me a bit nervous so I put a piece of tape as a security
feature. It is well that I did. When I got back I found that the rubber
band had broken.
The vibration that is such a problem every where else is non existent at
this point, and the camera view is much better. One bug scoring a direct
hit will wipe every thing out however. :-)
I flew for one hour and 5 minutes. The file size was 1.2 gigs. I then
edited it down to two clips of 4 and 5 minutes, and they are being
posted to You Tube, and face book now.

For $10 bucks you get cleaner and oil to do the filters at least twice.

Very nice... your music selection wouldn't have occurred to me for a flying
