Subject: | swivel tailwheel for Kolbs |
If any on you with standard Kolb tailwheels have been thinking about moving to
a swivel tailwheel, I have one ready to bolt-on to the standard Kolb tailwheel
stinger. It is a 4" diameter full swivel with some use mostly on grass but in
perfect working order with only a little wear on the rubber. A new one is $288.95
from Aircraft Spruce. I'll sell mine for a lot less.
This one came off of BB's MkIII when he went to a 6 inch wheel. He sold it to me
for my FS but after breaking the FS and selling the remains, I no longer need
the swivel tailwheel. The SS I'm buying has one already.
If you are interested, make me a reasonable offer. Contact me off-list, directly
via email.

May want to hang on to it. Sling Shots have a lot of weight on the
tailwheel, similar to what I deal with on my mkIII. If you fly a lot, it
may wear out sooner than you expect.

Here is a new video of me flying with some ultralight trikes in my Kolb MK III
Xtra. As always with YouTube, the video quality will be horrible unless you click
the HD button on the bottom right of the video.

John,
Luray already replaced the stinger type tailwheel with a leaf spring tailwheel
(6" I think), so it should be good for awhile. The wheels are replaceable. Attached
is a photo of the one on Luray's SS.

Thom, do you have a picture of it, and know how much it weighs? I'm
wondering if it would be too big or heavy for my UltraStar...

Dana,
I don't have a photo and have not weighed it, yet. Next time I go to the hangar,
I'll bring it home, weight it and shoot a photo of it. This much I can tell
you for certain: it is a good bit heavier than the standard Kolb tailwheel but
it sure improves ground handling. How close to aft CG limit are you? If you are
very close, it could be iffy.
I'll let you know its weight as soon as I know it.

Subject: | Slingshot questions |
I have a few Slingshot questions for the few SS pilots on the list or anyone who
knows:
1) What size main tires are considered standard on the Slingshot? Luray's has 800x6
which seem to be a bit overkill unless you operate on pretty rough fields.
2) Is the standard SS tail wheel a full swivel or like the FS and FF and what diameter
is it?
3) What is the correct Vne for the Slingshot? I've seen several numbers ranging
from 110 mph to 125 mph. Luray's ASI is redline marked at 110 mph.
Thanks for whatever info you can provide.

Subject: | New Camera, Owyhee Ramblins |
I made a trip down the Owyhee River this morning and when I got back
from the two hour flight, and viewed the video, found that I had a
blemish on the camera lens. I attempted to clean the lens and was unable
to do so. I managed to drop it the other day when I took it off the
mount to obtain pictures to send to the list. I can only assume that the
damage occurred when it hit the concrete. So I would caution those of
you who bought one, to hold on to it. :-) The blemish is visible, will
have to decide whether to buy another one, or put up with this.

Most of this has been done by me before, but there are two bands of
Bighorn Sheep in this one, and I never get that tired of the scenery
down there.

- Larry- You might be able to buff out the scratch with a Demel felt tip
-and jeweler's rouge.- It worked for my son-in-law when he scraped an e
xpensive window with a roofing shingle.- Go slow, and clean often to insp
ect.- If it's just on the surface it will clean right up.
- Great video from such an inexpensive camera.- Better off dropping a $
50 one than a $300 one.
- The added music was not allowed by WMG (?).- Keep them coming, and th
anks.

When I posted the video, I had put some Earl Klugh and Enya music as a
sound track, but You Tube informed me that there was some copy write
infringment and gave me the choice of replacing it with their music that
they owned. I tried sever times, with little sucess, then I found one
that seemed to take, but it is a little short, so when the music shuts
off, hum a little till it quits.
