My cable thimbles are worn quite a bit. How have others attached the stabilzer cables. They have the thin 16ga or so tab where the cable thimble rides on. I was thinking of going to a small clevis just so there's more "meat" there. Also, how much tension should there be on these cables? Thanks, Tony BTW, solo'd last night for the first time and it felt great. 6 more T and L's and 1.5 hrs of solo and i'll have my ultralight permit. Tony: Those tabs and cable thimbles have always been high wear items because they were not meant to be used as we use them on our Kolbs. Somebody has a photo of the system I came up with, some years ago, that put a stop to that problem. I have had tabs wear all the way through thimbles to the cable before I discovered the problem. I am in a bit of a rush, at the moment. Try doing a search of the Kolb List Archives for tail wire bracing, etc., if someone does not have ready access the the photo. Congratulations on your solo. Always an adrenalin rush and a feeling of significant accomplishment. For me, anyhow. ;-) Take care, john h mkIII ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 07:40:43 AM PST US Subject: Kolb-List: Re: Horizontal stabilizer cable thimble worn From: "albertakolbmk3" Sorry, did a search for the thimbles and found my answers. What size of turnbuckle would people recommend for this? I suspect it might actually just be a very expensive can of Lemon Pledge. I'm going to pick up a can of LP and compare them on some scrap plastic to see what happens.... Cleaning the windshield and other leading edges after every flight, regardless of the product, makes the whole chore pretty easy. Aged bug remains are harder to dislodge than relatively fresh killed ones. I also now put a coat of liquid wax on the leading edges after flight. It only takes a couple minutes. I learned to do that after pulling a 5th wheel RV for some time. Makes a world of difference next time you clean. do not archive -------- Thom Riddle Buffalo, NY http://riddletr.googlepages.com/sportpilot-cfi http://riddletr.googlepages.com/a%26pmechanix A complex system that works is invariably found to have evolved from a simple system that works. - John Gaule Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=254813#254813 ________________________________ Message 10 ____________________________________ Time: 08:06:08 PM PST US Subject: Kolb-List: Re: Horizontal stabilizer cable thimble worn From: "icrashrc" http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?t=54500&highlight=&sid652cc1c65e840268e4d8ef7d067726 -------- Scott www.ill-EagleAviation.com do not archive Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=254845#254845 ________________________________ Message 11 ____________________________________ Time: 09:54:33 PM PST US From: "b young" Subject: RE: Kolb-List: Re: plexus Also, I've noticed that Plexus smells almost indentical to Lemon Pledge. Maybe be careful where and how it is stored.
