Arty, I hope the old Drifter finds a good home (if in fact you are selling it). Remember that some Kolbs are not too claustraphobic! I've seen a lot of planes for sale over the years that are for sale simply because the owners became bored with flying them. Far and away they have crappy views above all, spam cans and lots of front-engined tractors. The owners report just not getting much of a charge out of flying them after a while and were sort of bored with flying in general too. I met a couple of such folks at the UL field where I took my UL training. They went up with my UL instructor in his quicksilver "Sluggo" and were stunned by the experience. They didn't realize what they'd been missing all that time and went about getting back into aviation. That was my experience too. I was right at the end of my private when I realized I was thinking of giving flying up altogether. Couldn't put my finger on why. Went up in the instructor's "Sluggo" and havn't been bored since. Mostly because I fly planes with good views, like the Kolb..... But that's just what I've seen. True lots of instrument pilots don't care much about being able to see, well, anything out the window..... Kolbers, Dug out the FireFly cold weather flying gear for snow duty. Four foot drift in front of the garage door. I keep the Kubota backed into the garage so that all I have to do is raise the door and plow out. Rotary snow plow is a necessity, as the house is on a knoll and no matter which way the wind blows there is a drift that blocks the drive to the road. Right now I am getting more snow blowing time than flying time. We are supposed to get a break for two or three days and then be in for it again. Jack B. Hart FF004 Winchester, IN

Don't get me wrong though, I don't want to live in it full time, just when I feel like it. The weather at hauck's holler is windy, cold, grey, and wet. Been that way, for the most part, since I got home from out West the day before Thanksgiving. I'd like to fly off snow with the mkIII. Would be another firt for me and the Kolb. We are no strangers to flying over snow fields, ice fields, glaciers, and mountains, but never when the field was snowed in. john hauck mkIII hauck's holler, alabama

If someone paid me enough I'd go out flying tomorrow. I'm far enough north that the big storms don't quite make it. Probably about 3-4" on the strip. Not enough to glue me down. In days of yore I flew all season long. -Even with the wimpy heater an Aeronca had. Now I draw the line at about 50F. The Kolb is at a neighbor's place, wings folded but still on, so it would take 20 minutes to go. His strip is a bit shorter than mine so that would be another consideration. Had to pull the dog off another possum two days ago before he did the big bite. I stuck him in a tree. (the possum that is) Dog wasn't happy about that. Mahesh/Gang: An archive search will return all the info that has been put out so far on the 2010 Unplanned/Unorganized Kolb Flyin Monument Valley, Utah. There are no organizers or plans. ;-) However, the flyin in will be held: May 21, 22, and 23, 2010. Usually, we start arriving on Thursday, which will be 20 May. We use Goulding's Airstrip, 4,000 feet paved, field elevation is 5,192 feet: http://www.airnav.com/airport/UT25 Most of us camp in the RV Park, others come in RVs and also camp there. The RV Park has an indoor pool, showers and camp store. There is a lodge, cabins, and duplexes. There is a nice restaurant, grocery store, service station and snack bar. Just about everything you will need to be comfortable and have a good time in a special beautiful place. Our primary purpose is to have fun with the least amount of work and head aches. That is why no one is in charge, there are no duties or responsibilities, and better yet, no dues or fees. ;-) It has worked this way since the first one we did in May 2003. This will be the 8th consecutive flyin. Holler if you need more info. john hauck mkIII titus, alabama Hello John, George and flyin organizers, I am planning to attend the Kolb Flyin this year and wanted to confirm the dates and other preparations for the same.
