Some of you answered off line with a longer and more involved response than would have been of interest to the other people on the list. The general conscience seems to be that it may be best to put most of my effort into streamlining the plane and learn to use what I am fortunate enough to have. Thats what I intend to do , at least until I can gain enough experience to make an informed decision of my own . Right now I'm just feeling my way. In case anyone is wondering where I might be: I've decided again to leave the list, but I want to be honest about why. I initially thought I didn't have a problem (as per my email with Larry C), but in thinking it over I really do. I found the "well rounded, all weather VFR pilot" exchange I had with John Hauk to be extremely disturbing. It took me a while to come to this conclusion but now having thought it through, I've decided it was enough of a problem for me that it's best I leave the list. This betrayed, to me, an attitude of boldness that indicates to me a lot of pushing of the limits and complacency concerning the risk of what we do in our airplanes. I consider this was a very bad (and dangerous) trait in a pilot and one that worries me greatly, especially given the reverence with which the attitude is regarded and propagated on this list. I just wasn't trained that way and am just not a risk-taker of that type. I'll probably always continue to push back against it, which will I think only increase the signal/noise ratio on the list and just make a mess for everyone else. So in the interest of the list, I've (once again) decided to leave. I'm still reachable by PM (as I participate in other matronics lists still) in case of any questions/issues, but I won't be participating on the list anymore. From: Robert Laird I had a 3-blade Arplast prop connected to a Rotax 503 DCDI engine on a Rossi trike, many years ago. At the time, I only had prior experience with a Warp Drive prop on a 447 pushing a Quicksilver. Compared to that, the Arplast was like someone used magic to create it. It was strong, quiet and resilient. The engine and prop were directly behind me, but I could actually fly without any hearing protection, and it was tolerable. People on the ground couldn't hear me at all, even at 600'AGL. Now, whether that translates to a Kolb or other fixed-wing, I can't say. I've not seen one since I owned the Rossi. I never measured the thrust, but it was a kick in the pants compared to the 447/WD combo. Granted, a Rossi trike is WAY more aerodynamic than a Quicksilver (a barn door has similar flying characteristics), so that is probably a lot of it, but I was very impressed. If you want to see a photo of the prop on the Rossi, let me know and I'll forward it to you. -- Robert On Mon, Mar 8, 2010 at 9:29 PM, TheWanderingWench < thewanderingwench@yahoo.com> wrote: > Does anyone have any experience with the Arplast?
