Nice set of pics. I like the `D-Day` black and white on the wings. My father ran a hardware store and a couple of days before 6th June `44 a lorry from the local airfield turned up and the squadies bought all the black and white paint we had in stock. It was used for painting those stripes on the wings and fuselage of the Horsa gliders and Stirlings. (It was a bomber but downgraded to glider tugging.) at the local airfield. Of course we didn`t know what it was for at the time. A couple of weeks ago I attended a get together of veterans from RAF and Para`s and one guy came up and introduced himself and said that he was the squaddie who had come to the shop to buy the paint. .Talk about the long arm of coincidence. Incidentally most people don`t seem to know why the stripes were put on. It was just because the standard of aircraft recognition was so low (Particularly the Navy who always shot first and asked questions after). Cheers Pat

Trouble is that there will be very few there because there is a football match on the TV (I understand). Some people have strange priorities.
