Yes and it must also have altitude encoder too to fly within a Mode C area or to
fly over a Class C area without contact with ATC. It must be re-certified, in
the airplane, by a qualified avionics shop every 2 years to be used at all.
If your aircraft does not have an electrical system, and was never issued an airworthiness
certificate when it had one, you can fly within a mode c area without
a transponder but must stay out of the Class B airspace itself. Nor can you
legally fly within or over Class C airspace without permission from ATC without
a currently certified transponder with altitude encoder.

- Bill, I've got the same problems you have.- Weather has been terrible
for working outside- 90 to 100 in the shade, and humidity off the scale.
- I have lots of parts to keep me busy, and every time the weather breaks
, so does somebody's car.- Or, I have to babysit for the grandkids.- I
thought I was retired.- That means more work for no pay.- Still trying
to finish the trailer as well.- I'll have to run and hide to take my nap.
- Now I know why I see old guys napping on a park bench.

Sounds good about the recovery John. So glad all is moving ahead for you.
Sept 1 is only a little over a month away. Hopefully you will make good pr
ogress in the next few weeks. Do you do the annual on your plane at Gnatt
International?
I have attached (at least I think I did) some photos of Homer Kolb and my r
ight wing before the pinking tapes installed. I understand about "making r
ecommendations". As you say it is always best to just tell what has been d
one and then let the individual make up their own mind about what works bes
t for them.
Have a great weekend all.

For the Mark-III with the stock alum gear legs, you push them all the
way into the cage sockets until they bottom out. Then drill.

I don't understand what you mean by wingtips? They are standard per the KX drawings
best I can tell.

Subject: | Re: Fw: MidValleyA/P: Good Gas |
Hey Guys,
Just a heads up on "Ethanol Free Gas".
A flying buddy of mine was using regular 87 octane for hundreds and
hundreds of hours and recently decided to try some of that gas
advertised as "Premium Ethanol Free Gas". He immediately experienced
engine problems with cyl head temps spiking dangerously high while
egt temps remained in the normal range and a near engine out with
forced emergency landing. Trailered the plane home and did all kinds
of checks with repeated engine run-ups, each with similar symptoms
and results.
He finally removed all the "Ethanol Free" fuel and refueled with his
normal regular 87 octane,,,,,, and wouldn't you know it ,,,,,, it
ran perfectly as it always had for hundreds of hours.
My uninformed PERSONAL opinion is that whatever the refineries are
currently using instead of ethanol to meet octane specs is far worse
than ethanol, at least for Rotax 503 air cooled engines. One
observation we made was tiny tiny beads of some residue stuck to the
plugs. Our theory is that they acted as tiny glow plugs and seemed
to be causing detonation at higher power settings.
Gene Z
Regardless ,,,,, based upon my personal observation of this
phenomena, I WILL NOT use "Premium Ethanol Free Gasoline" in my plane.
