Seems we have a rash of FAA inspections at our local Fly-ins....
Ever since Ralph B called the FAA about our Northern Lights Airpark...
I wonder if he's giving tips about our Fly-ins...
He really pushes "Sport Pilot since he's finally legal...
I guess if someone gets mad... They can sick the FAA on everybody
in a wide radius....
Here's a post I got....
I'll bet the Cherry Grove fly-in will be vacant this year....
What a shame.... It's our biggest fly-in around here...
Who wants the FAA going over yer stuff even if you ARE legal...
Gotta Fly...

Well here we go .. I wondered just how far this might go .. Shit, if this happens
Cherry Grove won't be much of a fly in.. Iam about ready to sell my GT and
get out of flying altogether ..

Subject: [MUA] FAA will be at Cherry Grove fly-in
I received an interesting call this afternoon. EAA called today with a warning
message. They were calling to let us know ahead of time that the FAA will be
in attendance at Jewels fly-in this coming up Sunday. They will be looking for
any aircraft that dont have N numbers on them to see if they really are Part
103 compliant.
I would also venture a guess that they will check other planes out as well. For
those of you that went Sport Pilot and LSA, then just make sure all your paper
work is in order. For those of you flying UL aircraft, make sure it really
is an UL and follows Part 103.
I wasnt home when EAA called so I got the message when I got home. I also got a
call from our club treasurer who did talk with the EAA folks. Seems they kept
us in the database afterall.
Id hate to see anyone hassled by FAA at the fly-in this sunday. Please pass the
word around as best you can. Make sure you are legal. If you are, then you will
have no problems.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the fly-in this weekend
Fly safe

Mike, please go pick on someone else. I had nothing to do with it.
Maybe the FAA is cracking down on illegals. Have you ever thought of that?

Kolb flyers=2C
My latest project has been to finish my MkIII's seats. I thought about b
uilding those
Rans seats=2C but decided to stay with the original sling seats.
The main reason I considered a non-stock seat is because I DO NOT want to
sit so
low!!
However=2C after wrangling with the idea=2C I decided to just re-install
the OEM sling seats=2C and
see what you Kolb pilot guys say.
I secured my sling seats as per plans today.......with the mid-point of t
he sling secured to
the cross tube under the seat (like the plans show).
Here's my question=3B Do you sit really low in your plane directly on yo
ur sling seats=2C or do you
build up the height with lots of cushion=2C so you can sit up a little?
Is there anybody that builds up the seat with lots of cushion? Do you fi
nd that you NEED lots of
cushion to raise you up=2C or is the height of just the sling an ok height?

Mike W/Gang:
I built my seat to suit me.
If I had to do it again, I'd do it the same way:
-Get in the airplane.
-See how the seats feel.
-If too low, put a cushion under my butt.
-Too far to the rear, put a cushion behind me.
When are you going to fly the MKIII?
You may be flying before I fly again. Still waiting on a BFR, but may wait
until I get back from my road trek West before I get one. I still can not
push my plane in and out of the hanger.

Subject: | Forest Lake fly-in last Saturday |
It seems there is a lot of blame and accusations going around lately. For that
reason, I thought I would post something of interest about flying rather than
complaining. This is what I wrote to my local list about the fly-in at the airport
last Saturday. I've flown the last two evenings. It appears the Light Plane
pilots in my area would rather sit and complain than fly.
************************
Guys and Ladies,
Yesterday turned out to be a great day to fly once the fog burned off. I got to
the airport at 7:30am and it was socked in. We waited until 10:am when there
were a few peeks of sun showing through. The Kolbra was on display and Laurie
(my wife) was answering questions as people approached and looked it over.
Once the flying began, it was non-stop until after 4:30. There was everything there
including a band, classic cars, and boats, and food. I got to talk with pilots
that I haven't seen in years.
Mark German's grandson had waited in line to get his Young Eagles ride and finally
gave up as the waiting time was too long. Mark asked if I would give little
Logan a ride and it would be my second ride with him. We flew over the airport
while staying in the pattern for 3 passes. It was very busy and my head was
constantly watching other aircraft in the pattern. After the flight, I made it
official by presenting him with his Young Eagles flight certificate. He was
thrilled.
Later on, Laurie hopped in the Kolbra and we took off to Osceola WI. It was nice
and we enjoyed the flight while talking about the fly-in.
The Civil Air Patrol was directing traffic on the ground and those young boys and
girls did a fantastic job keeping us all safe. I'm sure the airport
commission will invite them back again next year.
There was also Boy Scout troops directing the public and the cars coming to the
fly-in.
I ran across a lot of older pilots interested in flying Light Sport. Some
begged me for a ride. Good turnout and a good fly-in! I really enjoyed this one.

John=2C Kolb guys=2C
Now that I have the sling seats reinstalled=2C I have something to
test what feels okay. I suspect plenty of cushion.
Getting in and out is quite a chore=2C at least it is for me. That's one
of the
reasons why I don't want to sit so low.
Regarding finishing the plane=3B I kind of gave up trying to predict a
completion date=2C
'cause I've had so many things keep me from finishing it. I like to think
I can get
it registered this winter or so. At least=2C that's the plan.
The biggest challenge for me to finish the MkIII is to complete the cabin
=2C
i.e. the instruments=2C ballistic chute install=2C new wing gap (since old
one doesn't
work anymore)=2C interior stuff=2C etc.

Very nice Eddie. What a treat, just got in from an evening flight to go see
a buddy I haven't seen in over 25 years, came back and made a 5 minute
chocolate cake to celebrate and found the link to your videos. Looks like
Kolb country to me.

Mike, I like the low seating, I just fold a towel and put it over the lower
tube for a bit of padding and go fly.
