It seems that he was a meticulous workman and pilot so the result of an official investigation will be of interest to us all. Condolences to the family of course. Alexander, Jr. Sent: Fri, Sep 10, 2010 2:29 pm Subject: RE: Kolb-List: Follow up on registration information Rick, Rick, et al: The more you guys banter this issue around, the more confused I get.... My situation (and I know of many others in the same boat) is this..... My Kolb FS II was never registered as anything.... it was never under the trainer exemption.... it wasn't registered with any of the alphabet group s, nada. In the spring of 2007, I, along with 4 others at our field went through th e required steps to get an N number, registration and get our airworthines s inspections. All was done, according to the book and we all were now th e proud owners of Experimental Light Sport Aircraft. Holding Airworthine ss and Registrations with NO expiration dates. Along comes the issue of re-registration..... my early understanding of th is issue was that in the anniversary month of my initial registration in 2011, I have to fill out a form, send in the fee and I'm good for another 3 years. If all this foreboding about the dire circumstances that one faces if they fail to re-register is just.... don't be delinquent or pay the price, the n that I can understand. What am I missing? Maybe I'm just in the slow group or call me a lemming. .. if that's what I have to do to continue to enjoy my Kolb, then I'll do it and to the best of my feeble ability do it on time. Thanks in advance..... Only E-LSA's are affected by the new requirements in a drastic way, although having to go through the E-AB re- inspection would be a pain if you have to pay the DAR again. Antiques that have a type certificate are barely affected since their paperwork is on file with the FAA. An owner might lose his favorite N number but that wou ld be minor compared to E-LSA. Rick On Fri, Sep 10, 2010 at 11:28 AM, robert bean wrot e: I suspect they are also trying to reduce the number of "airplanes in a drawer". Those folks who have all the paperwork and a dataplate and create from scratch. This wi ll make it tougher on restoring antiques. My understanding is that they are trying to stay abreast of non flying airplanes to recove r N numbers etc. I reregister my plane (sort of) every year in Michiga n and pay them. Seems like the states and the FAA could talk but I sup pose that is asking for too much. Also I just changed my home address for me and my plane with the FAA. You would think that would give me three years credit. We will see. The $5 you are reporting is much better than what I was hearing so ho pefully you are right. It isn't anything to worry about unless you know the address on your registration is wrong. If it is just fix that now. -------- Roger Lee Tucson, Az. It took me three months and many tries to get them to accept my new address. They kept rejecting my new address as invalid. I was receiving mail and had a good address but the FAA didn't like it. Finally sent them the local post masters name and phone number and they accepted my address change on my Kolb.
