I have done moth balls, rat traps, mouse traps, DECON rat poison, etc.
The best approach has been blocking the aft end of the tailboom with scotch
brite pads. This year something got in through the pads, took a couple nips
out of the top edge of the right seat back cover and the edge of one
shoulder harness strap. Everything is still serviceable. Could have been a
lot worse. Or it may have gotten done the three months I was rocking and
rolling in the wheel chair. I am not sure.
In the past I have had seat and shoulder harnesses, wiring, and plastic
brake lines cut. They cut the brake line completely through, hydraulic
fluid and all.
I think I will probably go with a hardware cloth or sheet metal split cap of
some sort to mechanically keep'em out, or try to keep them out.
Thanks for your suggestion,

Hi all, I replaced all the tygon fuel line on the FSII with new
tygon F-4040-A. When it was delivered, there was a note that said.
Tygon appears to NOT degrade if kept frozen. So I packed up the
tubing I had left over, with my Foodsaver vacuum packer, (mostly used
for venison,) and threw the spare tygon in the freezer. I have also
discovered, that my vacuum packer works to prolong the shelf life of
all kinds of other products. Eg: contact cement, Liquid Nails
construction adhesive, paint, epoxy products, pretty much anything
stored in a can that is always dried up when you go to use it. Worth
what you paid for it! Lanny N598LF

Kolb Friends -
JBM also sells after-market replacement rubber boots for the Bing carbs.
Anybody have experience with these? My 912 is due for new carb boots, and
the Rotax boots are somewhat expensive. The JBM website claims that their
"exact replacement" part for this item will outlast the Rotax boot, at less
than half the cost.
Am hoping someone on this List has bought these rubber boots from JBM, and
can comment on their quality and longevity.
Many thanks -

You prolly know this, but a deer (aka white-footed, peromyscus) mouse
can squeeze thru 1/2" hardware cloth. Hard to believe!
Better to use 1/4"

Larry Cottrell has a herd of good sized bull snakes around his place.
Should have brought a couple back to Alabama with me.
No one living in the old house out in the pasture where I have my airstrip
and hanger. If they were, we'd have some cats, as Robert L suggested, if
those big rats did not kick the cat's butt.

Don't know about deer mice, but a normal/regular mouse can probably do the
same thing.
Thanks for the info.

I don't quite understand everything you said, but I've been wanting a sealed battery
anyways so I will probably just buy a new one instead of rejuvenating the
old one.
But thanks for the suggestion and info.

John I must have missed it, what are you recovering from?
Btw I don't know if you heard but Henke totaled his Aerobatic Extra, he had two
engine failures in the last 7 months, the last one totalled that airplane. He
landed on the highway and a car hit him or is it vice a versa...The old K'rnal
walked away both times with not even a scratch. I told him he is getting real
good at it.

Thanks, Chris/Gang:
I'm still recovering, but it is definitely getting better each day.
Was happy the 912ULS performed so well after nearly 7 months down time. It
was just as though she had been flown regularly.
I was also surprised I had no more moisture in the fuel tank, which was at
about 5 gal, or 20% capacity. The fuel was a mixture of 87 octane mogas
w/ethanol and 100LL, plus Marvel Mystery Oil. I have no idea what the ratio
of the two fuels was, but probably more 87 than 100.
A good bath and the bird will be as good as new.

I just used your situation as a jumping off point to offer an alternative to those
few it really fits. Not everybody is interested in fooling around with batteries.
But wait! There's MORE!
For some of you pilots who buy aircraft batteries and don't want to fool with them,
for $35 + shipping you can buy a rejuvenator that you wire up permanently.
While I have no economic interest in this issue I think saving one aircraft
battery would be worth the $$.
