Ok, this flight officially makes me a weenie. Good on you for braving the cold
to fly on such a beautiful Christmas Day.
Spoiled in Florida,
Dave

Dave
I wouldnt say brave and this makes no one a weenie after 40 odd years of
motorcycling in this country (all weather biker including winter weekend
camps) I know that you can cope for a while with cold, if you can get
enough layers of clothing and still be able to comfortably move around
and not restrict blood flow to your extremities. This flight was about
45 mins. To be honest although fingers and toes were cold when we landed
it was actually quite pleasent in the air the kolb cockpit does a good
job as a mini greenhouse when the sun is out, it was worse rigging and
de rigging the aircraft as gloves and small safety clips dont go well
together and if you dropped one in the snow ....goodbye forever to that
one
After the flight I had to put the plane on its tail trolley and tow it
back to the hanger with my 4x4 as it was challenging to say the least
when off the scraped parts of the runway It would not have been
possible to fly at all if not for other club members who had timeto
spare over the last few days and cobbled together an old trike trailer
some scaffolding planks and some ballast weight into a homemade
snowplough

Thanks for the great video, Eddie.
I sent the link to my son-in-law (from Carlisle) who went to college in Liverpool
and now teaches at a college here in Buffalo, New York. Though he has never
flown low and slow over Liverpool, I'm sure he will recognize some of the landmarks
you overflew.

Subject: | Kolb MkIIIc Kit for Sale |
Merry Christmas Everyone! I have been a "lurker" for several years now on the list
and have enjoyed the pictures and stories that everyone has contributed.
A little over 3 years ago I bought a beautiful partially completed MkIIIc from
a gentleman from Florida (it had been sealed up in an enclosed trailer since he
moved south). Attached are some pictures. Besides a little dust from sitting
in my garage since then it is in wonderful shape.
After much thought, and sadness, I realize that I just don't have the resources,
mainly time, to complete the kit and give it justice. I have a 4 year old, and
a new job that demand just about all my time. It needs a new home and I hope
that someone on the list knows of someone in need of a MkIIIc.
Here is what you get: The cage has been painted, the wings assembled, the control
surfaces have been assembled, all of it almost ready for covering. I have a
ton of parts, hardware, polyfiber information and chemicals, all the original
blueprints and instruction manuals, as well as a Kunzelman LED strobe position
light assembly still in the box (I paid $400 for it). Most importantly I have
the original bill of sale from the factory to the first owner in 1992, and then
another bill of sale to me back in 2007.
The assembly, all done by the previous owner is absolutely top notch. I think he
ran some sort of machine shop business and the craftsmanship shows.
I am asking $8,000 for it which is less than I have in it. I think that is fair
for what you would be getting. I live in Nashville, TN and would more than willing
to help you load it up. You can reach me on my cell at 615-268-1409 or arran.addington@gmail.com
I am more than happy to answer questions and take pictures,
come on by if you like. I figured that I would offer it to the group first,
and then if I don't hear anything I will put it up on Barnstormers next week.
I appreciate your help, and hope someone knows where it can find a new home.

John, I may take the Waiex down if the weather looks good.
One night is all I'm good for, too unless we can get a few laps in at the track
somehow... [Laughing]

Kip/Gang:
That would be fun if I knew you were going to be there. We haven't camped
together since Sun and Fun 2009, the year I got a ride in the Mayflower
Balloon, I think.
Weather will be the primary factor in whether I will fly down or not.
Physically, I think I can do the flight and probably be relatively
comfortable camping out, if the weather is going to be reasonably warm and
dry. In other words, decent "field grade flying weather". ;-)
Right now, the weather up here in the Heart of Dixie sucks big time, with
snow flurries, gusts to 30 mph, and severe overcast.
I still have to wash N101AB (101st Aviation Battalion, Liftmaster Pad, Phu
Bai, RVN, 1969-70), although she flies without a complaint with 8 months
barn dust, bug and bird crap all over her.
Be glad when the weather gets warm enough to at least be somewhat
comfortable to do a little work on her. I need to rewire some of my current
radio and headset 12VDC power to insure I have not drain on the aircraft
battery when shut down. That includes the aircraft clock which is wired
direct to the battery and runs 24/7. Not that difficult to reset the clock
during engine warmup. The clock alone, can kill the battery if the engine
is not cranked in a month or so.
Glad I was able to get a few hours in after I got home from my trip West,
the first flights for me since the first of May. It really felt good to
break ground out of my old cow pasture and view the earth from another
perspective, a perspective that normal folks don't get to enjoy very often,
or have never enjoyed.
Take care and Happy New Year,
john h
