So far all the pictures you have posted both here and on FB look just like the Warp I had and broke in 1990, both inside and outside. And I don't care who says what, or what your credentials are, I broke several of them, and back then they did have a blondish-tan foam core. With this talk of flying in south Florida, I thought I'd show you a photo or two of the current conditions a bit north of you, say 1500 miles or so. Yesterday afternoon my front yard was green grass. This snow started about 6 hours ago (currently 10 AM ET) and is forecast to continue for another 7 hours. do not archive -------- Thom Riddle Buffalo, NY (9G0) Kolb Slingshot SS-021 Jabiru 2200A #1574 Tennessee Prop 64x32 Don't accept your dog's admiration as conclusive evidence that you are wonderful. Before you put the trim tab on, hold off for a bit until I try out Kolb's new wing shim bracket. We now have about 2.5 hours on the FSII after the rebuild, and like most all 2 stroke powered Kolbs, it wants to roll left and yaw right under power. Kolb sells a rear spar bracket that allows you to raise or lower the trailing edge of the wing, and tomorrow we will drop the trailing edge of the left wing by a couple washers and see what happens. The expectation is that it will pick up the left wing and center the ball. If so, no trim tabs needed. Maybe... We'll see... Thom Thanks for the photos. I used to enjoy winter in Michigan. Good fun bundlin g up, preheating the VW on my Kolb and flying off on skiies into the winter wonderland. The snow really is beautiful and I'm sure it is better yet in person. But.... With all that said I now prefer walking the beach every day collecting shark teeth, checking out the spring breakers in bikinis, and th e very occasionally Kolb fly over. no id Best I can deduce from all the posts on Ellary's prop failure is that Warp Drive changed their design sometime during the 90's by moving to a solid carbon prop, after they became aware that their earlier models were breaking in the field. I guess if I was WD I would publish a SB telling people to trade in their old blades for a new discounted ones, and to not fly their foam core models till the old blades have been replaced. It will be a win win for everybody on that score. For all I know=2C they are the be st props in the world. However=2C about 3 1/2 years ago=2C I shared a story with this list about m y ultralight flight instructor who lost a blade of his Warp Drive prop. This happened on our way to Arlington Air Show=2C 1993 or 94. He had a Q S MXII=2C 582 Rotax=2C WD prop. While crossing the mountains from east Washington state to the west=2C the prop lost a blade. Fortunately=2C there is a grass runway at the summit for this very purpose =2C and he was able to glide to it. Another student and I were in his truck=2C pulling the enclosed trailer=2C and we were able to remove the wings and two the plane to Arlington. At the airshow=2C my instructor (Dan Nixon) spent an enourmous amount of time dealing with the Warp Drive people. >From his description=2C the plane shook so bad=2C he couldn't control it=2C until he shut the engine down. This is a fact!! Like I said=2C I'm not bashing WD. I'm quite sure ever y prop manufacturer in the world has had props lose blades. Maybe WD got a few of these defective designed props back=2C and then went to the more solid carbon fiber core. If so=2C maybe this is a testiment as to why so many people brag about their present durability. Mike Welch MkIII
